Downshifts are smooth. Way smoother than my 12 CTD. It did once downshift to third on a long grade. RPMS hit 4000 and it gained speed and up shifted to 4th before we crested the hill. I'm way satisfied.

Well Tgallagher here are those pics of my new ram finally and yes I did order the 4.10 gears.

Do a writeup in the Tow Vehicle section if you don't mind. I'm interested in the MagnaFlow: Why are you installing it? How does it sound? Performance increase?

@TGallagher
How are you liking the truck? I read this complete thread, very informative, Thank you, It helped me decide. I am looking at a 2500 with the mega and 4.10 rear end tomorrow . The only question I have is the Payload seems minimal at 2900lbs. I see you are pulling a large 5er and the wife and I have our eyes on a 10000lbs our selfs. Can you tell a little something about the weight of ur 5er and the pin weight. Do you think the payload is more than enough capable of the weight. Thanks in advance if this thread finds you.!!
Freddy
have a 2012 1500 5.7
looking to buy (Tomorrow ) a 2500 6.4L mega cab with the 4.10 rear gear axle ratio.
as of now pulling a TT 5200 dry. Looking to upgrade to a 5er at 34' 10000 dry.

@ Rocky3204, you shouldn't have any problem but it will be nice to get the pin weight of the 5'er that you planning on getting. I have the 4.10 gears and it give me 15,650 lbs but since you are getting the mega cab it might be a little less but either way we need to know the pin weight of the 5'er.

2500 6.4l 4.10
Big1
Thank you, guess I may need that calculator... I'm told loaded, the 5'er could be around 10,900 lbs. With that, the pin weight should be around 2180lbs...
So, that should leave approximately 720lbs for wife kids dogs firewood and miscellaneous for the remainder of payload?? Does that sound about right?

Okay, now what is the payload of your Mega Cab? Mines is about 3,300, but now you have to go by the sticker that's on your driver door, what do it say on that sticker?

2500 6.4l 4.10
Just got back home from the dealer with my new truck... 3hour drive and rode great. The payload is 2910. It has the snow chief package,so I'm thinking maybe I can sneak in a couple more pounds...
Anyway, it will be close if I go with that 2910. # , but if I'm over a 100#s don't think it is the end of the world...

Awesome, yes you will be close so if you pack carefully it will be doerable, what I would do is after you get it loaded take it to the scale to weight it. Congrats on you new Mega Cab and please post some pics.

Ram 2500 6.4L W/ 4.10 rear gears
Thanks Big 1, I only have a few miles on it but I do love it. Just concerned about the payload limitations , 2910 seems low for a heavy duty, I guess I will be limited to the size of a 5er I get. Hoping a 10,000 lbs 5er will be okay, Im sure I will be over the payload by at least 200lbs however.
here are a couple pics..

Rocky3204, Well I started out wanting to get a 5'er and I was looking at some pretty nice one with about 1550 lbs or something like that and with that is very doerable, if you had a diesel the payload would be even lower, like about 2300 to 2400 lbs because they are heavier. The Mega Cab add more weight so you lose a little on payload but you should be good to go, and if your MC is load it take away more weight.
I have just a Bighorn and my payload is 3,300 lbs I had my order and I didn't get a lot of option but I got the 8.4 screen with Nav, step bar, 20" wheel, spray bedliner and that's pretty much it but all of this is with the 4.10 gears. I did add a backup camera later but nothing else.
