EasyStart 3T

Ok so I was doing some browsing on the web to find what's the best solution for powering a 15k ac unit. I found a guy who's actually powering it with just one Honda eu2000i using a MicroAir EasyStart 3T soft start device. And here I was contemplating getting a EU7000 series.

Here is his thread:

And here is a YouTube video giving a demonstration of the unit:

My Honda eu3000is runs my 15K a/c just fine. The a/c is louder than the generator.

Just before we got our trailer I went and purchased a generator. Thinking we might need it on the road, places without power, etc. I purchased a Champion 4500W start / 3650W run (model 100216) at tractor supply for just over $300. Weighs 99lb, has a 30A RV plug on it and is not very loud compared to others like it in size. I put wheels on one end and looked into some way to mount on the trailer or transport it in the back of my truck. Now that we've made a few trips (without the generator) I've realized I likely won't ever need it. My wife picks the camping spots and all have full hookup. The onboard battery and gas are enough to operate most of what we need (slide out, water, lights frig), other than the AC, while traveling but we don't need it then. Net, I doubt I will use the generator for the trailer and it will end up being used around my shop or out on our property. If I had made a few trips prior I doubt I would have purchased the generator. So far all of the sites we have visited wouldn't allow them anyway and I've yet to see anyone using one. That said, we are not in the areas with no hookups so wouldn't expect any.

Mostly I use my generator to power the air conditioner while we go into something. We have dog and don't like to leave her in the trailer without the a/c going in the summer. We frequently stop at things like Bass Pro, museums and even when shopping at Wally World. If we're going to be gone for any length of time I just fire up the generator and turn on the a/c. Also it's handy for lunch stops if you're somewhere like southern Arizona in the summer.

We use our TT more for long distance travelling and not so much for weekend camping like most folks.

I have it mounted on one of these:

According to Coleman...I asked why my 2.5kw genset would not start, but would run my 11k AC unit. Yes I tried several hard start devices. Their first question was how old was my AC. 8 years and blew ice cold.

The answer was as the nits get older due to compressor wear it requires more amps to start. Which is why my genset will run it, but not start it.

I just picked up a Champion 3100I last week based on the reviews on this site. Had to try it at home and it runs the 15000 A/C with no problems. I played with loads and it looks like watching power usage just like a 30Amp connection in a camp ground and all's good. It run's everything at once except A/C and microwave or two A/C's, pick one of the higher drawing units, two over loads the generator. It's quite, can't be heard over the A/C.
