Thanks everyone for the help. If the new gel foam doesn't do the trick, I now have a lot to choose from. The tips about density are especially helpful. I didn't know about that.

DW & I went from a 195RD that had the most comfy mattress ever, to our 2019 24RBS...that has the most horrible, back breaking, uncomfortable, no sleep pos I've ever laid down on! We bought a 3" memory foam topper from amazon, and it helped somewhat. Problem was, we would sink in to it. Then, we tried putting the topper underneath the mattress. BINGO!! Worked like a charm. Topper stays put, mattress stays put, and we can now sleep like a fat baby!

I too am looking into a topper or something for mine....but in the meantime, kind of an "oh crap I forgot to get one"....I laid out a couple of those thick moving blankets under the mattress. I was surprised how well they worked to add some relief/cushion. And they fold up small enough to store easily. It also keeps the chill down on those crisp nights....

I have had good luck with using foam mats that interlock. Place them on the board, then place mattress on top. Cheap at Harbor freight
