Coleman Mach vs Dometic AC

Just looking at pictures online of the 2018 Jay Flights, in particular, the 28BHS and 28BHBE. It appears like some of the 2018 BHBE’s have the Coleman Mach and some have the Dometic. All of the pics I could find of the new 28BHS that show the AC in the main section of the TT are Dometic and come with a digital thermostat, except the 360° view on Jayco’s website which has the Coleman Mach and analog thermostat.

I’m guessing Jayco puts in what they have in stock at the time of the build?? Or could it be which plant it was built in or the destination of the unit?

I currently have the Coleman Mach 15K in our ‘16 Jay Flight 26BH and it seems work fine but I have no experience with the Dometic AC.

I’m curious to hear of people’s thoughts between the two brands. Is one better? Is one quieter? Is one more efficient? Or any other differences. Or are they equally as good.

Below are two 2018 BHBE’s, the first one with a Coleman Mach and the 2nd is a Dometic.

Thank You in Advance for the feedback!

Over on the Forest River forum there were multiple posts about the Dometic 15k having serious issues but that may be resolved by now. My last Jayco had the Coleman Mach, 7 trouble free years. My new one has it too, so far so good.

I had to install a hard start capacitor in my 13.5 Dometic so that my Champion 3100/2800 would run it.

2 years on my 28BHBE and no issues at all with the Coleman Mach AC. I did install a EasyStart™ 364 (3-ton) Soft Starter on the AC so I can run it with my YAMAHA EF2000IS.
You do need to clean off the air filters on a regular basis if you run the fan or/and AC a lot. (That is easy to do)

Thank you for all the feedback and the link so far, I would be curious to hear some more about the Dometic 15k units as it doesn’t appear you would have a choice as to which brand AC you get with your unit. Hopefully they have worked out the bugs in the last couple of years.

I have the two 2K Honda’s that never struggled with our Coleman Mach 15k. I thought I read somewhere that the newer AC units came with some sort of a hard start capacitor or something?

I am assuming that the Dometic AC’s have a lever or something to switch between “ducted” and “dump” like the Coleman Mach’s do?

Cheers [emoji482]
