New to the forum - inexperienced with a question

I am new to this forum. Sure wish I had known about it a year ago but we haven't had the chance to go out more than 4 or 5 times so we are definitely still learning.

Question: The Norcold Refrigerator seems to only work on gas. It is still under warranty but wondering if there are things I should check. On Auto, it only runs if the gas is on and it uses the gas. You can hear it light and running while it cools. It doesn't seem to ever switch to electricity even when we are plugged in. Is there anything I should check or get in line to take it in to have them check it while still under warranty?

I have been reading the ideas you all share for newbies and this is great! Thanks!

Do you have a 30 amp or 50 amp cord on the trailer?

You could check the circuit breaker for the fridge, and make sure it hasn't tripped. Turn it off first, then back to on.

There should also be a 12 volt fuse designated for the fridge. Make sure that's not blown.

Open up the outside access cover, and verify if it is plugged in.

My fridge has an ON/OFF button and a gas button. On button turns on the electric side and the word AUTO comes on. This will allow the fridge to seek electric if it is available. If I want gas I must turn the gas button on. Auto light will go out.

Sometimes, when I’m running on gas and plug in, I have to cycle the fridge off and back on to get it to realize there is electric available.

Mine is the same way. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I've just started manually switching it so that I know for sure what mode it is in.

Are you getting any type of error codes when you try to run it on A/C? That could tell us a whole lot of what might be going on. Try turning off the propane and then trying A/C. Have been having some problems with mine but I seemed to have gotten them fixed so far.

We did the same thing on our first trip many years ago. The fuse to the refrigerator was blown. It has to have 12 volts present to sense the 110VAC shore power. After a week of using the cooler for all of our food because our brand new trailer's fridge didn't work, I felt really dumb.

FYI. A/C = Air conditioning. AC = Electric.

OP states it runs on GAS, so it's NOT a 12 volt issue
Either a 120 volt issue or a bad control board

You are correct, sir! 12VDC issue would keep it from running on gas as well.

I have the same issue with the same fridge been to the dealer three times for it. Even talked to Norcold they’re telling me i have to switch it to gas first, let it light, then auto. I still have issues I think I have a bad board. It even locked up on me until I powered down everything in the rig and reset/started!

Mine will work on electric and it’ll work on gas, auto seems to be the problem. We just make sure we switch it over. This is my third rig with absorption refrigerator never had this issue!

Also like someone said there should be a 15 amp breaker for that refrigerator that will stop it from working on Electric if it’s tripped.

And that the outlet in there is energized.

For the first year, we had to set it to gas when traveling, and set to electric when hooked up. If i recall, I actually would turn it off to makd the change (set it correctly when powering up). Oddly, the auto seems to be doing it now, I don't know what changed. That said, I still check it to see it did the right thing!! Good luck!! I hope it isn't serious, just stubborn.
