Propane price!
Last week while in Fort Ebey, I needed to refill one of my 20lb tanks. Took it to Oak Harbor and was charged $11.00. I thought the attendant made a mistake since in Canada it's always a minimum $20 for a fill, and usually it's around $24 when I'm empty. Not a mistake. On the way back to Canada I made sure to fill both tanks before leaving the U.S. My cost...$18...what I would have likely paid at home...$48. I'm going to be sure to fill up in the States on my next trip south instead of before leaving Canada.

Hey Greenenvy1, I'm in B.C. And wish I had your propane prices! Good news is I live 10 minute from the border, the bad news is that I'm already not supporting our economy by getting my gas down south. Hard to support our local economy when there is such a difference in price right over the border. Someday we are hoping to see your part of the country! I haven't been east of Toronto yet.

I took my 30 lb tank in last week and asked for a 20 lb fill because I knew I wasn't empty. The standard rate for a 20 lb fill at our local " home hardware" was 16 dollars plus tax. The attendant said it took 19 lbs.

Oh man...oobedoob, I was up at Scotch Creek for a few days I should have filled my tanks when I drove through Kamloops...although filling my truck gas tank was a little more expensive up there. I've been talking with some friends here in the Valley and so far we all seem to be paying $20-$24 to fill one 20lb tank. I'm going to have to pay more attention to the price of propane when I drive by the local gas stations. Are you guys in Canada getting the propane for under $15 are you letting the tanks go empty before filling or is that just a partial fill. Since I feel I'm getting ripped off here, there is no way I'm filling my tanks here anymore.

3firetrucks, all places in town is a flat fee, they don't meter out how much they put in, they just have it on a scale and when it hits the weight it's done so I always drain my tanks dry.
The next time I am driving past Costco I'll make sure to see what the price of a propane fill is... maybe it jumped and I haven't noticed.

I will have to check my Costco for propane. I've never paid much attention to LP prices, but now I will. I was thrown off a little, when I my tanks were filled by the gallon in Wash. Unlike going by the weight up here. By the way, how do you like your 184? that is the trailer I really wanted. Would have had a 2012 last year if the last one hadn't been sold just before we got to the local dealer.

3firetrucks, this may be a stupid question, but are you factoring in the exchange rate of the US dollar?
BTW, from what I've read, 20# Blue Rhino exchange tanks are only filled to 17# and Amerigas exchange tanks are only filled to 15#. Things that make you go HMMMMM. Refill stations might be harder to find, but I bet they are a better deal than exchanging tanks, even in Cananda.

Does your Costco refill tanks or exchange them?.. Mine does neither .. and the fueling station does not even sell diesel..

here in the southern U.S. the best kept secret is a store called Tractor Supply. a camping buddy told me about them when I complained that my dealer over charged me for filling my tanks. he told me they charge 1.99 a gallon and only charged what they filled. I said no way and found out when they charged me 1/2 what I paid at the dealer.
I went there tonight to fill my 20# tank for the fish cooker. the attendant told me it was 1/2 full and could only put 2 gallons in it. I paid the cashier 4 bucks and some change and thanked them.

Not a stupid question. With the exchange it was only about $1.10 extra on the $11 tank still saving a bundle. I've never exchanged tanks before, only refilled.

Propane price!
Yooperfan... I'm pretty sure blue rhino and amerigas exchange tanks are only filled to 15#, at least in the U.S.. That is some sort of safety regulation (yeah right).
But for anyone reading this in the southern, NH area... Dodge Grain in Salem, NH was $8.15 for an empty 20# tank to be filled to 20#. That price is unreal!!! I brought 2 tanks, 1 that was not fully empty and they only charged me what I put in. I paid $12 and change and left with 2 full tanks.

Our Costco fills, I don't think they have an exchange program but almost every store and gas station has the exchange. My wife paid $25 to fill 2 20# tanks the last time we needed propane at the Esso near us.
We love the 184BH, big enough to fit the 2 dogs, DW and child with enough room for a 2nd kid in the future but small enough to be towed with the 6cyl. We were looking for a bedroom on wheels with the conveniences of toilet and A/C and fridge but still want to spend the majority of our time enjoying the outdoors. It's a perfect fit for us!

I pay $18 at Husky truck stop in Ontario, but since I'm 5 minutes to the USA border and camp primarily in the USA, I fill up my 20# tanks for $12 in the USA. Not a huge savings, but since I'm there anyway, and I usually run out while I'm camping there I take advantage of the lower rates.

WoW, That's almost $40 dollars for a 20 lb fill. Seems prices are all over the place in both Us and Canada. Maybe because we don't shop around like we do for gas witch is posted at the road?

Here in Lander, Wyoming propane is $2.85 per gallon. Down the road 25 miles in Riverton, Wyoming it's 1.95 per gallon. Didn't know it cost that much in transportation for 25 miles.
