New RV Owners

My wife and I purchased a 2017 Hummingbird this year to take advantage of our new retirements. So far we've found a few things wrong with the trailer. Does anyone have a solution to the heater not working? How about the hard as a rock "beauty rest"? We look forward to our future outings and sharing the trailer with our family members.

Congratulations on your retirements, the Hummingbird, and welcome to the forum.

If you bought a new Hummingbird, then see your dealer about your heater problem AND the mattress. Sometimes Jayco will credit owners for those uncomfortable mattresses. Others of us have purchased mattress toppers.

I don't remember anyone ever complementing the factory mattress. Try to get some $ from the corporation.

On the furnace, check the many posts on furnaces. Line must be bled. Check the thermostat. Is it trying to run? does the fan come on? If no fan then short the wires behind the thermostat. If that doesn't help check the fuse. See if any power to the thermostat.

All those ok and furnace fan runs. Head for the outside, check that the pilot light is lighting. Lots more posts from there.

All this is good stuff to know. One day you will be out of warranty and camping somewhere and it will fail to light again.

Call your dealer and ask what you should check first before taking it in. Might be a quick easy fix.

Run the water heater and/or fridge on gas only for a few minutes to help eliminate any air gaps in the propane system and try the heater again.

As mentioned, we chose a mattress topper for more comfort.

Share some of your outing's adventures with us too. We look forward to hearing more from you.

Have a good one!

Welcome to the forum. The bed in our MH is also very hard and uncomfortable. My wife and I purchased a LUCI 3-inch Gel Memory Foam Mattress Topper through AMAZON. This made a world of difference and now we can sleep comfortably on the bed. Once you work through the challenges of the inconveniences you find in your RV you will enjoy your camping experiences. Enjoy.

Welcome from Western NY! On a new unit, sometimes it takes several cycle attempts to get enough gas to the furnace to get it lit. Like others have said, light the stove to help get it moving. Also, if it's been a long time since it was used. As far as the mattress, some use toppers, we bought a memory foam mattress to replace ours.

Smile New Hummingbird owners

Hello Jayco-owners we got this Hummingbird in December 2017 it is a 2017 model RB.
We are in Ohio and have not taken it anywhere yet we are planning to use it this summer to go to Watkins Glen New York and a few other places we have downsized from a 33 foot jayco fifth wheel that we have owned since 2007 we have traveled to Phoenix , Grand Canyon , California Las Vegas ,all the way back to Memphis Tennessee North Carolina and Florida and back to Ohio over the years. just got tired of pulling the big rig all the way and all the things to go along with it downsized to have little bit more fun less worries on the road. I am towing this with my F250 diesel truck is too expensive to replace and plus I have all the extra storage room I've towed this unit from where I bought it 200 miles from home my mileage drop 2 mile per gallon towing the unit from running truck alone. This is a good thing.
