New to this site

Hello All
This summer we DOWNSIZED from our 40+ Foot Monaco Camelot to Jayco's Melbourne 24K.
In mid October, I winterized and tucked it under covered storage, while we vacationed out of Country.
Based on prior experience, and reading of Jayco's manual, I hooked the Motorhome to a 120VAC outlet, left the "Main Battery Cutoff" switch operative, and assumed that the onboard converter/charger would maintain both the Coach and Chassis batteries. This appears not to be the case.
After our recent return home, I checked "all" at the motorhome, and tried to start its engine. NO GO! Starting Battery was dead, and the Coach Battery
appeared to be down as well. After briefly running the onboard Genset, I was able to use the Coach Battery to Boost and start the engine.

I now have a 15/10/2Amp, stand-alone, charger hooked to the Chassis battery.
Can someone please confirm or state otherwise, how Jayco's electrical system is supposed to function? That is ----- should both batteries be maintained if/when hooked to an external 120VAC Outlet?
Should the inside "Main Battery Cutoff" Switch be left on (so it can charge)? Or, can it be switched off (to prevent accidental draw), and still have the batteries charged?
Thanks in advance for your response(s)
Rudy

Welcome to JOF.

Your equation is confirmed and the coach converter will not charge the chassis battery.
We installed the Trik-L-Start $40 and 15 minutes later, to connect the coach battery and its converter/charger to chassis battery through the emergency start solenoid and never again worry about dead chassis' batteries.

We owned two Monaco motorhomes up until this time last year when we downsized to our Jayco, and had the same Trik-L-Start installed in each of those.

Check your owner's manual or with Jayco support whether your chassis alternator will charge your coach batteries.

P.S. Remember just like most manufacturers Jayco hot wires some coach accessories to the coach and chassis battery. So unless there is a full disconnect switch added at each, then they must have a source of charge while in storage.

Welcome. We own a 2016 Melbourne 24K as well. There is not a charger for the starter battery or if there is it isn't working on mine either. My Starter battery was dead in three weeks but could have died earlier and I didn't know. The radio and CO2 detector are 2 drains on both batteries that I know of. I disconnect the main switch and have a battery maintainer hooked to both batteries for storage. I would have thought that your house battery would be full even with the main switch on and connected to shore power though. At least you were able to start the generator.
