I do it as well. I would prefer to find properly-sized plastic bins/containers that would hold up longer but that seems impossible for most items without wasting a ton of space. It does help organize and take care of things.

MidnightMoon, I must be married to your wife's sister or cousin...

I generally don't keep boxes anymore. The way things are made nowadays the box will out live the product and when I come across it will get angry again

I've been there before. Find a box from way back and wonder why I bought it cause it didn't last.

Dude, you have a problem. I would call a therapist right away!

I try to keep boxes for most things, but DW throws them away when I'm not looking. So after a few years of that, I have mostly given up. I keep boxes for some of my firearm related gear, but that's about it. If I have something that stores easily in the box, and no easily otherwise, we'll keep it and use it for storage. I have a compound miter saw like this; it's stored in the garage in the original box with the original styrofoam. Really, the boxes take up so much space, I pretty much have to get rid of them. Otherwise, there's just too much clutter everywhere.

I will keep all the documentation however. We have a drawer in the kitchen for household stuff, a drawer in the garage for tools and stuff, and an expandable file in the camper for that stuff.

When I traded in my camper, I was able to include all the original instructions and paperwork on everything I installed. I removed several items, so I went in there and retrieved that documentation. That folder still had the original invoice for my trailer.

Every house needs one of them!

Depending on what it's for my wife won't throw boxes away like she used to. I got her now to where she'll pack the coffee pot and toaster we use in the TT back into their boxes.
For the garage I have the same "folder", sort of. My file folder is actually a box I received some wood working plans in. It was a sturdy box so what the heck. But all my tools are either in my work bench or mounted to a rolling table. Too much hassle to keep that stuff in boxes but the boxes are in the attic.
