The protest office has gone home for the day. Here's where you can pop them to your hearts content.

First 2 weeks of my new trucking career are in the books! 2,013 miles the first week and just over 2,700 miles this week. Tiring, not so much physically, but mentally. There's a lot of concentration involved; more than I'm used to. But I figure as time goes on, I'll get more acclimated to all the new stuff and things will get easier to manage and be less tiresome.

Thanks! It's been a pretty awesome adventure. My trainer thinks I should be running solo just after Christmas. I started a diary here. It starts with trucking school and goes until just the other day. My driving that started a couple of weeks ago has kept me rather busy and didn't keep up the daily journaling. But I'll try to keep it up as I go.

Duke was on a winning streak here, so had to jump in and provide a progress report. ;o)

Just finished the training program with Keller Trucking. I had to drive a few different areas like mountainous and dense city, and accomplish 8,500 miles. Also complete a training manual, too. Everything went as good as could have in such a short time frame. That fact that I was able to complete all of this in just 18 driving days is pretty amazing, imho.

Now I'm waiting for a truck to be assigned to me. They thought this week, today (Friday), but it might be next week. Then I hope to get out there and make some $$ for the family!

Everyone enjoy the upcoming weekend!

Congratulations. I'm assuming that they are a regional hauler correct? Did they give you an idea of how often they will have you back home?

I work 5 days and have the weekends off. Driving semi-regional keeps me a bit closer to home, however, long drives aren't out of the equation. For instance, I was just dispatched last Tuesday to Oklahoma City, OK from Angola, IN. That takes two days to get there bc I can only drive up to 11 hours in one day. Drove for 11 hours and got within about 3.5 hours from the destination. Make the delivery the following day (Wed.) in the morning (7 am) and then head towards the next city to pick up a load 180 miles north of Oklahoma City. Already that is heading me back towards home. Now that delivery is scheduled for Friday at 1 pm in Bristol, IN, but I can make it there by 2:00 (or so) Thursday! After a few phone calls, finally got the ok to deliver on Thursday. Yeah! Drove for, I think, 10.5 hours to finish up Wednesday and parked for the night. Drove, I think, 9.5 hours to get to Bristol, IN on Thursday to make the delivery at 1:30 pm. After that I drove an hour to Angola, IN where I started from on Tuesday.

So, that's a long way to say, even though I'm semi-regional, I can still be dispatched pretty far out and be back for the weekend fairly easily.

That's not a bad schedule at all. Are you responsible for load/unload or does your line run simple drop and hook?

We do both. I've done drop & hooks and live load/unloads. Drop & hooks are nice bc it's so fast; get back on the road rather quickly. Live load/unloads can be dicey; just never know for sure. For me,some have been a couple of hours at a dock and others less than an hour. There are horror stories out there about how long someone waited. Truck driver I know waited 13 hours to get loaded!!
