Philippine Adventure

Ok.., I depart next week to the Philippines (via Japan) for three weeks of jungle hiking, island hopping, volcano's, 30 cent beer, and anything else that looks interesting. Plan to rendezvous with my son in a southeastern Province off the Philippine Sea.

I will be departing the U.S. with only a 30L backpack (no checked baggage thank-you)...., it's amazing what you can stuff in a 30L backpack plus a small compression sack on top!!

Thanks Clutch....., been looking forward to this trip since my son brought it up last spring. He spends a lot of time traveling around southeast Asia, and calls the Philippines home. This trip should be a nice segway into some spring TT camping when I return

I'm familiar with the NPA, and for the most part they tend to take issue with the PI government/military, not the people. My son has crossed paths with them before and they didn't bother him. The NPA has even provided some assistance to the PI military when it comes to dealing with extreme events associated with terrorist groups.

I do however plan to be cautious around the terrorist cells in the southern PI islands, because they can be a little difficult at times.

The Philippines is a beautiful country and the citizens are very nice people, unfortunately there has been years of unresolved political challenges, but there are signs of improvement.

Hahahah! So what kinda drama can we stir up here at JOF Bob!? LOL

I will post later (probably in a sticky due to the mod thing to let members know I'm totally off duty for the month), but, although Bob and I will be "in" SE Asia "at" the same time, we won't be "in" the same place "at" the same time! Haha, I will be with DH and BIL, and Bob will be with DS!

Have fun Bob! Except for our jungle adventure in Thailand, I'm guessing your hiking in the desolate jungles of Asia will be more challenging!!! What an amazing adventure ahead of you. Travel safe and post pics when you get back!!!
