"Where were you in '62?"

I was actually getting ready to make my grand entrance into this wonderful world.

I do miss my umbilical cord..... I was very attached to it.

I loved listening to the great Wolfman Jack on the radio back in the 60's. He was a real entertainer and played the best music of our time.

He had a transmitter right over the Mexico border and far exceeded the power of any other station. Can't forget his voice....great time to be growing up. American Graffiti was what it was like, late 50's early 60's. Great music, great muscle cars...great times.

We used to listen to WAPE, the big ape out of Jacksonville, Fl. We could get it here in SC on the coast.

My favorite station back in the 60's and 70's was WLS in Chicago. I could only hear them at night though.

Had a old radio seemed like to us it had tons of knobs on it. Antenna was a wire run out the window and hung on the edge of the roof. Amazing what you could pu at night.

I used to listen to Wolfman Jack on his original radio station out of Mexico XERF. The character was developed on that station.

It was known as a Border Blaster station. AM with 250000 watts.. I heard it at my college some 60 miles south of Ottawa Canada

Click on the link.. It really was the Wild West not only in the airwaves but on the street. Kind of interesting history

I really liked Wolfman Jack but trucking through Dallas/Ft.Worth area my favorite was the Bill Mack all night show. He came on at midnight with a lonesome train whistle to start his show on WBAP.

Very interesting! I grew up in the SW side of Chicago in a 2 flat my grand father owned.

One day, I got on the roof and mounted a 10' steel conduit on a chimney with a long wire running down into my bedroom on the first floor. I took some very thin motor winding wire and wrapped it around my small AM radio's antenna. I loved turning it on at about 1am in the morning and seeing what distant radio stations I could get. I kept a log. California, Texas, Seattle, NY.... and even picked up the Wolfman on occasion. Luckily, the steel conduit was never hit by lightning. It provided a lot of good listening.

The 2 famous DJ's of Chicago at the time were, Dick Biondi ("The Wild I-Tralian") and Larry Lujack ("Super Jock") on WLS radio, which at the time was the go-to radio station. Dick Biondi (yes the disk jockey that told the joke "Three strikes and your out" on the air, and was fired that very afternoon), was the main DJ that all the kids listened to.

From those days of radio listening to my todays choice "CW, Blues, Classical and Easy Listening"

My how times change

Mustang65 I am right with you on that. Do you remember Uncle Lar and Little Tommy with their Animal Stories ? Sometimes my brother and I sing On Top of a Pizza made famous by Biondi. Those were the days with great radio, specially in Chicago.

My first exposure to the Wolfman was on the Midnight Special, which was on TV on Saturday nights during my "formative years." I was 13 the first time I saw American Graffiti. I became a car guy instantly. I think I went back to see if three or four more times during it's first run.

Too bad they can't make movies anymore like American Graffiti. Clean fun, nothing blowing up, no cussing every 5 minutes. It was a joy to watch it again. I don't recall the station I heard Wolf man on but it was towards the end of his days doin tbe show.

Back in the late 60's, early 70's, usually after midnight, in South MS, I could pull in KAAY Little Rock or WLS from Chicago if the weather was right and I stuck my left foot behind my right ear.

24 hours in a day, 24 beers in a case. Coincidence? I think not.
