Octane 161 Newbies

Hi Everyone,
We are total newbies setting out in our new to us 2018 Octane 161, to be snowbirding gypsies for the winter. Many things we've figured out and many more still remain a mystery!

Our first night, we discovered the mattress was like sleeping on a pool table. We immediately bought a 3" memory foam topper and it has made such a wonderful difference!
The smoke alarm is ultra sensitive. Standing under it with a steaming cup of coffee will set it off. Every time we boiled water on the stove, it went off. We know it's not the right thing to do, but we disconnected it.
We figured out how to turn off the outside speakers. The fade option on the Furrion entertainment system did the trick!

Here are some things we could use a little help with:
*Playing a DVD on the Furrion entertainment system. Somehow, and we have no idea how we did it, we got a DVD to play on the system. There was much button pushing, trial and error, and possibly some colorful language, but we actually watched a movie...once. We haven't been able to get it to play another movie. When we put in the disc, it says "Loading" but then we get an error message, and no movie. If anyone has any magic or knowledge with this problem, please share!
*When it's totally quite in our trailer, we hear a faint long beeping sound with a few seconds pause in between the beeps. We think it's a normal noise, but we can't figure out where it's coming from. Any ideas?
*We have a High Pointe microwave/convection oven. We haven't used it yet, but we will! Any tips? I am hoping to do some baking in it...brownies, and cookies maybe. How do cooking times vary from a regular oven?

I'm sure we'll have lots more questions! We thank you in advance for your wisdom!

I can't help you with the beeping sound but with the problem watching a movie, make sure your TV is set to the correct input. Hit the input button and you should see something like AUX1 Aux2 HDMI, etc. Choose the correct one and the movie should play unless your unit is malfunctioning. Cookies are good no matter how/what they are made in.

Welcome aboard, I also have the 2018 161!. One of my first mods, was a thicker mattress, I drilled new holes in the happyjack rails for the pins that hold it up when travelling, cause had to make it stop alot lower than factory holes for the thicker mattress.

We built storage so we could stop living out of bags on the floor. 161 has none (and nothing outside, which we totally overlooked when we bought it).

There is a section called "Camp Cooking" where you may find pointers on using your microwave/convection oven.

We also drilled more holes for the bed. We have it about half way up, so we can keep it in place and still use the table and seats. We have a bunk ladder to get up into the bed.

We're still trying to get the dvd player to work. The input is good. The TV and the Furrion seem to be communicating. The theory is, if it worked once, it should work again. Hopefully we'll get it figured out.

don't feel bad i have owned mine since 2017 and still don't know how to use the oven just use it as microwave, i think your noise might be the water heater electric element.

and the radio does not like dirt/scratched dvd and will not play Blue ray, or if you made a back up of a movie it will not like to play it.

Like supercraig said the first thing I did was build two cabinets on the inside and put a toolbox on the tongue for storage. Made the trailer so much more useable in my opnion

Looks Great!

Awesome Supercraig1! Your cubbies look great! We are considering something like that. Living out of a duffel gets old fast. ;-)

This is the cabinet I built. Similar to supercraig but I liked the look of the doors better. I have two shelves behind the upper doors and an area to hang jackets in the lower section.

I built this in bathroom due to lack of storage.
