My 2017 23RB Modifications

I have several modifications spread over several previous posts. I should have put all other modifications in one place. I will from now own.

In any case, I'm changing out the less than one year old OEM FIC 3500-2 electric tongue jack, with a new Barker Deluxe High Power 3500. The FIC brand was so noisy it would almost wake up the dead. It's only plus over the Barker is the foot extends at least 6 inches effectively making it a ETJ with a 24" stroke.

The Deluxe High Power Barker has rather than gear on gear, a recirculating ball. This should reduce the friction and therefore reduce the amp draw. It's supposed to be a little quieter because of this.

I'll post pictures after I finish the install today.

Barker Deluxe Hi Power 3500

This is the new tongue jack. Replaced the old FIC 3500-2. It was terrible, and I was expecting it to fail at any time.

I was able to swivel the Barker jack head to the side, and now my tailgate will completely lower with the trailer still hitched. 3 set screws allows the head to turn to the side.

Unfortunately the pictures are sideways.

PD4655L MBA Converter Mod

Today I did open heart surgery on the 23RB. Took out the old WFCO 8955 converter, and replaced it with a PD4655L with Charge Wizard pendant.

I feel better now that a decent converter is on board. Unfortunately, any project takes me much longer to do than normal folks. Because of that, I wasn't able to make the change over to 2 6V GC2 batteries. I'll tackle then next good day we here in Richmond.

Today was in the 50's, tomorrow we may get snow. Love winter.

Dual 6V for 12V Battery

Finally had a nice day here in central Virginia, high in the lower 70's. So I bought myself 2 Duracell (Sam's Club) GC2 and installed them. I had previously bought a dual, end to end, battery box for the GC2 batteries. I also bought a 2 gauge cable to connect the negative terminal of the 1st battery and the positive terminal of the 2nd battery. They have a 215AH capacity.

Now, I should have no worries when I'm in a parking lot, or primitive campground and need to use some lights and run the furnace all night due to a drop in temperature.

Here is one. I'll look for the others now. The 1st one is dividing the pass through storage into the inner part under the bed, and the outer part which is now an exterior pass through. The pictures make more sense than my explanation.

The 2nd one is changing the shore power cord to a detachable one.

The 3rd one is strengthening the back of the dinette seat.

Replace/bypass black tank flush back flow preventer

The black black tank flush back flow preventer began to leak, or flood is a more apt description the last time I used it. I was going to replace it today, but General RV Center, the new mega RV store here in Richmond, VA area had the thing priced at $50 dollars. Man. At $50 dollars, it should have been made of silver, not plastic.

In any case, I discarded it, and replace it with a brass elbow. No preventer, but the black flush works. I think I will get a black flow preventer that goes on the end of a garden hose to keep any possible black flow to zero.

I also used some strap hangers to help keep it from swinging to and fro while going down the road. Seems Jayco should have done the same thing.

Dual GC 6V batteries switch

The following are some pictures of the two batteries hooked up. The two batteries fit snugly in the battery box. I used a 9" 6 gauge cable to connect the two batteries together.

I included a picture of the battery description at Sam's Club.

The battery box is made by Century Plastics and fits perfectly where the old battery was. It's a bit pricey. I got it off of Ebay.
