Important safety issue please read
Well, we picked up our brand new MH from our local CW dealer in North Carolina last month. The tech went over all the features and we excitedly drove it home. We couldn't wait to go camping so we went out 3 different times and I guess on our 10th outing we decided to check out the smoke detector. We thought it was a little strange, our last RV's detector would go off when we made toast, and this one never made a sound. We were VERY surprised when we found that the CW techs never even removed the protective tape on the smoke detector's battery! Naturally, we also checked the other detectors and found the same thing on the CO2 detector. We were shocked that we spent 10 nights in our new RV without working safety devices! So, PLEASE! If you have a new RV and never personally inspected your safety devices DO IT NOW!

Excellent reminder. Also, remember to change the batteries in all your detectors ( RV and home) at least once a year. Cheap insurance. Stay safe!

First thing I do is push the test button to see that they are working!

At least yours came with batteries! In the 377 thread one member discovered he didn’t have a battery in his SD. When the rest of us checked ours, many of us didn’t have one either! I’ve had my trailer for 2 years.

We got tired of the ionization type smoke detector going off every time something was cooked, so we changed it out to a photo electric type smoke detector. Now we can cook in peace.

Same here! The first meal was breakfast & it went off when she was making the toast. Now we call it 'The Toast Detector.'

Thanks for the post. I test both smoke and CO2 everytime I take the TT out of storage.

Smoke Detector
I just ordered a Kidde combination photo electric smoke detector/CO2 detector from Amazon. $23.00 plus tax.
It's got a 7 year life. Hoping I'll replace the unit before I have to replace the detector!

Jayco decided that our SD needed to be directly over the oven, can't even boil water without it going off. So I took the battery out and added a photo electric detector over the entry door, now peace and quiet.

One thing to also be cautious about is that the residential type smoke detectors have a limited operating temperature range. The one linked above is 40-100*F. Temperatures in an RV are often outside those limits. The specific detectors for RV's generally have a wider operating temperature range.

Typically CW dealer prep, you were lucky, what else did the dlr miss. Read the manuals make sure everything works as advertised a lot of dlrs only addresses what you ask about - first time it was checked
