Below is the response from Micro-Air Tech Support.

We do not advertise it as extending the life of a
compressor motor since it would be very hard to prove. It does reduce the electrical shock that occurs on start though. We usually stick to the needs of the customer who needs a reduction for one reason or another. Common uses are starting with smaller generators, running two air conditioners on a 30 amp cord (with some limits), running on solar or DC inverters, or poor power situations at campsites.
