Progressive Remote Display Location

I just ordered the Progressive Industries internal surge protector with the remote display.

So my question is how often do people actually look at the remote display? I know where I am going to put the surge protector which is in the back of the camper under the rear bunk.

Below is a photo toward the back of the camper. If it is something that I have to look at a lot, the best place to put it would be next to the thermostat but I don't know how I would get the wire from under the bunk, up the bathroom wall, over the bathroom in the ceiling then back down the bathroom wall where the thermostat is. I did think of putting it on the outside of the wall below the bunk but I can see it getting hit or stepped on as the kids are climbing in and out of the bunks. So I don't think that is a good location unless over near one of the sides. Also how visible is it down at that low of a level. My other thought is that I really don't see myself sitting there looking at it so maybe I will just put it under the bunk in the storage compartment. Or I could route it so it is in the outdoor kitchen somewhere pretty easily. It wouldn't be visible from inside the camper but it isn't hard to open that door and look at it or access the bypass switch if needed. The more I think about it I think the outdoor kitchen is the location I am leaning toward.

I was just wondering how much people really look at it?

Mines in the bathroom, at eye level if you're standing outside with the exterior bathroom door open. Weird to some maybe. I like to see it scan everything after I plug up, so I plug up, open the exterior bathroom door and there it is. It also gives me something to look at while doing the business. I've had an EMS in almost every rig, and location of the display was always thought out. You only have so much wire to work with, so that plays a part.

So in short, I read it pretty often.

I looked at it a LOT when I had a 30 amp RV. I recommend placing the display somewhere easily seen.

The bathroom was another thought. I don't have external access to it though. It was kind of my thought that I would look at it the most when hooking up. If we are at a place with power, I will probably be in the outdoor kitchen more often because of the fridge out there. So I will unlock it. With it visible from the outside it means I can plug in and see what it says as we are going around setting up camp. I agree that the cord length is going to be a limiting factor. If I wanted to run it over by the thermostat, I don't know that the cord is long enough.

Mine is near the electric panel and easily viewable when standing outside looking in the open door. After connecting to the post and before flipping on the 50A house breakers I watch it cycle thru its messages as well as when entering from outside.

This is something also handy to keep around. I do get codes on occasion so it's nice to have their meaning handy. I have it on my phone. Ok the posted pic looks like crap but you get the picture. I just copied it from their website I think.

I left the remote display in the rear driver side storage compartment that's right next to the 50amp connection. I check it after hooking up to power. Not much after that but a few times a trip...

I look at mine frequently. I keep an eye on how amperage. It's nice to see when storms take out power also. On my website www.stormpod.org in the mods section I have more photos.

I wish there was a better location inside but in looking at it my best option is in the outdoor kitchen. I just don't want it in the bunk area unless in the storage compartment but then I won't ever look at it. With it in the kitchen it is outside so I can open that door and see it in the setup phase of camping. It just means I have to go out there to look at it. I did see that for $80 they sell a switch for a second display. If I wanted to install one later inside. I could do that.

I went through your list of mods and just about every one you have done is on my list. Detachable power cord, digital thermostat, bath faucet, grill at some point once the included one dies, additional storage lighting.

Put mine next to the fridge so I can simply open the entrance/exit door and see what's going on.
