Looks good. I always liked the look of the Colorado and this has the same lines to me in a bigger package. Inline 6 can't hurt either, but it'll be interesting to see how it competes with the 6.2.
And rounded fenders for those who hate the squared off look.

Nice looking truck. After quite a few years Chevy finally got rid of the square wheel wells.

Not sure if the 3.0 diesel is a brand new engine or and existing engine imported.

I hope it comes with the 5th wheel prep option so I can tow a big 5th wheel.
Maybe along the lines of the Eagle. The Northpoints are too long anyways or thats the way I'd go.

Would a 3 liter diesel and half ton be up to that?

I think only the Jayco HT series 5th wheels. Designed for 1/2 ton pickups.

Possibly, if they have the payload. That engine is also less then half the size of a HD Duramax.

I think the 2019 Ford 1/2 ton diesel can handle 11,400 lbs. towing capacity.
We'll see if Chevy tries to one up Ford like the 3/4 ton series competition.

While it is interesting, it did spark at least one question in my mind. They already had the 2.8L I4 engine, which is a descendent of the 2.8L VM engine from when GM had significant share in VM Motori. Why not just open it up a little to 3L and save a serious amount in R&D over doing a 3L I6? But then GM doesn't always do things that make sense.
But even then, a tow vehicle is more than just what is under the hood. Rarely, can a 1500 of any brand actually tow what it is rated for without first exceeding payload capacity. That is, unless they are pulling a draw bar type trailer like a grain wagon or fertilizer wagon on the farm. And with the new emissions laden diesels on the market, not really motivated to look further at this one than in some forum discussions. I do have a good relationship with my Silverado 6.0L 2500 gasser.
And I don't have any distain for diesel. I go thru about 21,000 gallons of diesel a year in my commercial stuff. I just have no interest in one for my towing needs. But then, I tend to stay on the lighter side. I like dispersed camping situations over major campground stuff, so that calls for smaller/lighter trailers that really don't cause my 2500 to break a sweat.

The 3.0 might be a existing Isuzu engine. Not really sure. Since Ram did the 1st 1/2 ton diesel I guess Ford & Chevy felt they needed to compete in that segment of the market.

Yeah, that is a valid point. Same for the rest of them. Once one OEM gets started on something, then everyone else feels the need to do it also. There are still some things that each OEM holds as an exclusive. I own GM, but Ram's cargo side truck beds are neat. Wish GM offered something like that.

I'll be at the Detroit Auto show next weekend and check it out. This should be interesting...

Cummins.
And a 3 liter diesel in a 1/2 ton is a totally different intent than 450 hp/900 tq in a 1 ton.

X2 I tow with a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Eco diesel. 3.0 liter, 240HP, 420lb/ft torque.
I tow a light weight TT, Jay Feather 23RLSW, about 5600 lbs. loaded. Does a great job towing and it fits in my garage which was a priority.
Actual towing mileage is 13-14 mpg. Everyday highway mileage is 28-30 mpg.
A 3/4 ton diesel would have been overkill for what we needed.
So there is a market for small diesel engines (Ram 1500 Eco) and the other 2 are following suit.
The F150's are ridiculously priced with the gas engines so throwing another $4k into the mix will be interesting.

Nice point.
Match your TV to your needs. A 1/2 ton with a diesel that gets good fuel mileage when not towing and is suited for your particular towing requirements while not exceeding any weight ratings may be the right answer for some. Towing with a TV that weights over 7k lbs, over 20ft long, having 900 plus ft lbs tq. and gets poor fuel mileage even when empty is not the correct fit for everyone.
That said the sales numbers in the next few years will tell if these new smaller diesels will gain a noticeable market segment.
