Alante surge protection

I am looking at installing a fixed mount surge protector on out new Alante 31V. Was curious if anyone has done this and how hard is it. RV is still at dealer, we pick it up next week so kind of hard to look for myself.
Thanks Ken

I would suggest you go with a full Electrical Management System ( EMS) by progressive. It covers so much more than just a surge protector. It will protect you against over and under voltage ( very common) surges, plus improperly wired receptacles. Some will give you a continuous read out as to amperage in use and voltage.

A surge protector is good but doesn't cover you from the most common issues you will find at campgrounds, especially those in more remote areas.

Good Luck

I guess the unit I am looking at is the same as EMS . It monitors for high and low voltage, open neutral, reverse polarity, Miswired Pedestal, and elevated ground voltage. It is the Surge Guard RV Power Protection by TRC sold at Camping World.
Thanks for your input Ken

Progressive is a much better unit and comes with a lifetime warranty. There are many discussions on here regarding both.

You are entitled to your opinion, but you may want to actually check out warranty. Also the majority of folks on here, many, who like myself have had both, choose progressive. There are many discussions regarding this subject. Progressive units are 100% field serviceable, in other words, every part in there can be easily replaced in the field, which means you do not need to send back to get repaired. No one else can say that. Their is little doubt who the "professionals" feel is the best unit.

I have the Progressive EMS-HW30C 30amp for three summers now. It has saved me several times with low voltage shutoff during heavy demand times. Its a simple less than 30 minute install, don't have to worry about theft or the elements getting to it. I looked at the Surge Guard RV Power Protection by TRC and at that time no lifetime warranty, many negative reviews when it had failed causing major damage to TTs, never did find out where its made, I suspect not in the USA since this is always a big selling point. If the Progressive goes bad they overnight ship a new circuit board and its a quick simple repair. Go to Amazon and look at the Progressive units, the price has dropped about $40 since I bought mine.

Wow lots of good post, That's what I like about this site. I'll have to do some more research. If the unit fails does it make a difference if it has life time warranty, when they don't pay for damage to RV? I have a chance to buy TRC unit form someone that bought wrong size, at supper price. That is what started this thread. Thank you all of you.

I had a 30A pole mount for our first TT and got a hard-wire 50A for the 5th. Both from Progressive. I read lots of good news on JOF about Progressive before I bought and I’m now a solid fan. Called their tech support line on a Sunday, had to leave a message (on a Sunday, of course they’re closed) and got a call back in about 30 minutes. Is it the best? Dunno, don’t care, it just works for me.
Do your research and buy what you feel comfortable with.

Thanks

Thanks to everyone for your input. As I see it rule #1 any protection is better than none. We have been lucky so far, we are now installing EMS in new RV.
Thanks

I would hope that manufacturers offer a wireless display some year, I'll find a location within the 14 foot data cable Progressive sells, apparently not a phone cable??, and install the hard wired model behind the converter. Not too many choices for the RKS location. Going with a full Marinco shore power set up at the same time, been a great project to plan until the mosquitos show up again this Spring.
