Can’t get hot water

Can’t get hot water to come into faucets. We don’t know what has happened. We winterized and turned water on now in spring to flush out. We have hot water in the tank. We have turned by pass valve both ways, one way cuts hot water side to no water, the other way just lets cold water run. We see no check valve on this Atwood tank. This is a 2011 Jayco light fifth wheel. Tried everything.

The check valve on the top just looks like a plastic nipple...

Could this be on the bottom valve coming out of the tank, because there is a long aluminum snout welded to the tank?

The check valve is on the hot water out connection, it only lets water flow through it one way. Look inside the one you removed...is there anything inside?

I replaced mine with this brass one, much better than the plastic stock one.

The one that was taken off was only a plastic fitting, no valve of any kind. We have read that some Atwood’s do not have check valves. We think it is a stem maybe on the incoming water valve. It feels like the stem on the ball valve is not tuning it. The only way we are getting water in tank is back flowing in from the by pass line.

The check valve is internal, just looks like an ordinary connection nipple. Can you see through it?

Yes , completely see through it. It looks like a regular fitting.

Have you or can you take a couple of pictures of the tubing, valves and heater? Then post the pics.

I hope this shows the picture in the attached files! The handle on the bottom right valve came off, seems like it is not turning the ball.

If the bottom valve is stuck in the closed position, that's the reason for no hot water flow. It sounds like it's time to have it replaced, or invest in a PEX crimper tool with some clamps and a new valve. There are much better PEX valves available at plumbing and big box stores.

Shark Bite and Watts also make quick connect valves so you wouldn't need a crimp tool.

Can you turn that valve with a pliers? Since you only need it twice a year that may be the easiest solution.

The valve stem will turn with pliers easily, but it feels like it is not turning the ball in the valve. Looks like I am stuck replacing. I would have definitely done what you suggested otherwise.

Buy or borrow a pex crimping tool. Ensure all water is turned off inside the RV, the water heater is off, and the water heater is drained. Remove the valve and inspect it to confirm your suspicions. Once confirmed, install a new valve and re-crimp. Other than laying down on the floor and working with your arms extended into this small compartment, it is really an easy fix.

The crimping tool is a nice tool to have in your bag. Even if you do not put plumbing parts back together with pex fittings, it makes it a whole lot easier to remove the pex clamps the "right" way. My opinion.

We feel like it will just be that easy, unfortunately, my husband has bone spurs on both shoulders and just can’t handle the floor any more. Mobile rv repairman is coming in the morning to fix. Everyone has been so helpful with suggestions and ideas.I love this place to ask questions on things others may have already encountered.
Oh by the way we came on to the MS gulf coast with no hot water! Great bath house here. We must be crazy!
