Replaced the Broken Televator

I think the rough section of I-10 east of Lafayette broke a plastic gear in my televator. Jayco relayed that it was manufactured by SmithRichards. Contacting them I found there has been a design change and no parts for mine are not available. So for just under $150 I bought a new one.
The TV drops down behind the fireplace and is a bit hard to reach. I was afraid I’d have to remove the fireplace to get access. I happily discovered I was able to remove it without disassembling anything major.
I removed 2 bolts that hold the TV in place and lifted the TV off the lift, and disconnected the cables and unplugged it. It wound up on the bed for safe keeping.
4 screws hold the lift in place, 2 in the top bracket and 2 in the “foot” that rests on the floor. The bottom screws were out of reach due to the depth of the cabinet. A long screwdriver did the trick. Disconnected the lifts power (12v) and out it came.
The new lift was a direct placement and went in quickly. Some tape to hold the screws to the tip of my cordless driver allowed me to secure the foot and the upper bracket was easy to reach. I had to cut the connector off the power line and crimp the new one on (connector had changed slightly).
I re-mounted the TV (2 bolts/nuts) and was done.
Much easier than I was expecting.
So, I spent $150 for a $0.50 gear that I would have gladly paid $20. Oh well.

I'm happy to hear that your are back in business. Sure seems like someone made that gear and could provide a source for a replacement.

Yeah, I thought so too and did some searching but came up dry. The original gear broke into many pieces and I didn’t find them all and worried that I couldn’t get enough measurements to make sure I got a good replacement.
Then there would be the time spent. I’m retired so my “hourly rate” is pretty much $0.00 but there’s other stuff I do that I’d rather waste time on than this. Being able to get a direct replacement that I knew would fit went a long way.

Discovered more damage in the 5th that I’m sure was caused by the dreaded I-10 east of Lafayette. Tried to open the under sink cabinet to store a new box of trash bags without running the slide out and discovered the bottom hinge had pulled completely away from the cabinet frame. It was the hot part of the day so I wasn’t in any mood to fix it then. Will probably tackle it in the early morning sometime over the next few days.
The “party” never stops does it.
