After New York-where to?

We will be leaving Bedford Hills, New York, tomorrow. We still have some time to kill before we need to be back down south. We have no plans until September 21 when we need to be in Knoxville, Tn. I certainly don't want to go the mess back home in Ft. Lauderdale.

Anyone have suggestions on cools places to go along the way?

We love Stone Mountain State Park in NC off I-77 near I-85.

Also Mayberry CG near Mt Airy, NC.

Colorado from NY and back to Knoxville in 10 days? Maybe on a jet plane!

We were in Waynesville, NC last week and it was 50's in the morning.

Just some ideas for you to consider on your way to Knoxville,
- Promised Land State Park, PA (just south of I-84)
- Harpers Ferry
- Shenandoah National Park

Slight side trip in NY - Watkins Glen & Figure Lakes area.

Hope this gives you some ideas

This would be a great side trip about 3 weeks from now. Still no real color change to speak of yet... Beautiful Mountains yes - Color, soon.

Friendship Hill Campground in Bedford Pa. Driving distance to Old Bedford Village, Gettysburg, Flight 93 memorial, Seven Springs Resort, Falling Water, Ohiopyle, and Fort Necessity National Battlefield. There are closer campgrounds to those attractions, but none as nice or centrally located.

If you are a history buff, there are many wonderful Civil War sites worth a visit such as Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Also, visiting the Washington, DC museums is a good experiences as well.

Saranac Lake is changing now.. Northern ADK's.. You can spend a LOT of time going down the Blue Ridge Parkway and Shenandoah.. Almost 600 miles mountain driving.

Johnstown, PA

Find out how the "men who built American," tried to wipe a small town off the map with America's worst floor in Johnstown, PA. There, you can see the remnants of the old south fork hunting and fishing club dam which broke in 1889 killing 2200 people. While in the area, there is the flight 93 memorial, deepcreek lake, and then you could make your way to the Lake Norman, NC area.

Shenandoah is really nice. Get up on Skyline drive and just drive. It's one of the best roads in the east for great views and with the winding from east to west side you can see a lot. There's several CGs along the way. We did Jellystone in Luray, VA so we could do both SD and Luray Caverns. 10 mins to each from there.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I will be sitting down with the map and the Chief Navigational Officer (DW) and figure our future path.

The suggestions really were helpful.

This is on my list as my kids are going to school in nc and we "commute" down there from Vermont 5-6 times per year. My one concern is been how the drive would be in a Seneca towing. I noticed there are a few low bridges and did not want to have any issues. Are there any problems with a rig of 13.1 height and 40+ length ?

Mark which campground are you heading to?

We are staying at the Luray KOA Holiday. This has to be one of the nicest KOAs I have ever been to. I'll be taking the Jeep on the Skyline drive in the morning. I'll report back after the ride.

My thinking is I would not want to take the Seneca but I will let you know.

Thanks. I saw several national parks like big meadows campground and did not know if you got there on skyline drive or if there was a different route. Hope you are having a good trip.

Niagara Falls, if you ain't been there!

RV parking in lot #3 is only $8. If the attendant isn't there, parking is free!
