Air Conditioner Beeps ?!

Well...a new issue has developed in our new Melbourne.
The CO2 alarm beeps once every 5 min.

We didn't get an owners manual with it so I have to turn to the experts here on the forum.
Suggestions anyone?
That annoying beep will keep us awake all night!

So many problems in the first week of this multi-month vacation has the wife ready to go home and put a for sale sign on this thing.

Is it equipped with a backup battery? If so, it's probably beeping for you to replace it. I was recently away from my house for a few days and when I returned, two of my alarms were chirping for new batteries.

Your alarm should have the model stamped on it somewhere. Google the make and model number to see if there's a user manual for it that you can download. Do it today! Your life could depend on it.

I haven't seen a backup battery. From what I've learned so far it is wired to my house batteries only??

I googled "CO2 alarm beeps every 5 minutes" and got this:

How do I stop my smoke alarm beeping every 5 minutes?
Insert a fresh Duracell, Energizer, or Everready battery to stop the chirp. Make sure the battery is facing the right direction. Close the battery drawer fully. If chirping persists, remove residual charge from the old battery.

Nope, not for RV's. These smoke / CO gas detectors are not like the one in our homes, because they do not have replaceable internal batteries. They begin beeping when they reach a certain age (like 5 years or so), and they will never stop. They need to be replaced. This is a must-do for your family's safety.

Are you sure it's the CO alarm and not the smoke detector? I've sometimes had difficulty tracing the intermittent beeps. If you're sure it's the CO/Propane alarm, it may have a bad power or ground connection to the house battery. I'd check the input voltage. Not sure what brand alarm you have, but here's the self test results section from my RV Safe CO/Propane manual:

Ours is wired to the cranking battery. No back up battery. Said your RV is new. If so you may have a bad detector or low voltage to the detector. Low voltage will cause them to beep. Does it beep going down the road?

Good question - there are a half-dozen things in ours that beep. The Inverter likes to beep too, if battery voltages drop too low.

If you're sure its the Propane/CO detector, then yeah - Google says low battery voltage will cause it to beep. Post a picture of the one you have and we can google up a manual.

I'll agree with you to a certain point, in that the batteries are not replaceable; so when they beep, they have to be replaced.

Plus, the ones in our house now are replaced (at east the ones I've bought at home depot) with detectors with a non replaceable battery.

The age of the RV has a bearing here. Since you didn't get an owner's manual I assumed you meant it was "new-to-you". What year is it?

If you will unscrew the CO alarm from the wall you can look at the back of the unit where the manufacturer should have listed the year it was made and the year it must be replaced. Then you can also check the power getting to the alarm to make sure it is where it needs to be.

Thank you all for the replies.
Yes ..mine is connected straight to the house batteries...no backup.
I think the cause is dust on the sensor.
When Jayco installed it the placed it at floor level right at the entry door (where my wife sweeps debris right outside).
So I bought a can of compressed air to keep it clean.

Anything is possible and if it's not beeping anymore, then great.

But...
Dust should not trigger a Propane/CO monitor.

Again - if it's stopped beeping, call it a success and move on to the next problem.

The smoke detector will be mounted higher up or even on the ceiling. They do have a replaceable battery and also do go bad similar to most any alarm with electronic components.

Not expensive for what they do.

Besides what's been mentioned above, there are several smells/chemicals that'll set it off, hair spray, perfume/cologne, aerosol cleaners, dog flatulent, and maybe some chemical off-gassing from something like a new foam mattress or topper. Our first one started beeping at 4 1/2 years old, at 2:00 in the morning. Gotta love it. We now carry one as a spare for when this next one ages out.

The CO detector is a 5 year item. They start an intermittent beep when it is time. Pushing the reset button may buy you a day or two but that's all. It's time for a replacement. I changed mine a few months ago.

For those that asked...the unit is a 2022. That we bought on Nov. 30,2021.

I disconnected the power wire to the unit.
I'll let the dealership handle the issue under warranty.

An aside...about CO/propane alarms.

A nearly dead house battery will cause the alarm to chirp for the same reasons that a home alarm will chirp...the battery reads "dead" to the alarm. Trigger voltage must be pretty low, about 7 volts or so, but check the status of your house battery. It might be the cause.

This is not a direct response to the OP's question.

Spilled liquids containing VOCs will trigger these alarms. In our old PUP, the fridge was next to the CO/propane alarm and the power center. A bottle of wine tipped a bit and about 1/2 cup of wine spilled through the seal on the fridge door onto the floor under the alarm.

The alarm triggered...full on alarm...and we had to work hard to clean up the wine. It had made its way between the cabinet face frame and the floor, so it was hard to clean it enough to prevent evaporating alcohol from triggering the alarm. It was quite a circus for a few minutes.

Seems likely that your CO/Propane monitor isn't properly protecting you
Purchase a portable unit (walmart) (cheap) for your protection until the problem is resolved
