camera recommendations

My 2020 Redhawk 22C has a rear view camera that operates only when backing up. I'm looking for recommendations for a rear view camera that operates also while driving. When I scanned Amazon choices they talk about prewired, etc and have a wide range of prices. I'm hoping for moderate price with easy installation. Thanks for your help.

I've had good luck with both Furrion and Haloview. Haloview was a little cheaper than Furrion, but I feel the quality is comparable.

they talk about Furion pre-wired. Would my RV already have that pre-wired status or is it something I would need to do?

I am very satisfied with the 3 camera Haloview system I bought. Very easy install. My trailer was pre wired for Furrion but the Haloview connected right up.

Furrion Vision S single camera. Acts like a rear view mirror while you're on the road. Got it on my 5'er and love it.

What system you viewing on when backing up? Sundstream? If yes there is a button on the screen in left bottom corner and it stays on while driving.

We love our Haloview RD10 - the screen for it's display mounts on the rearview mirror, so it's the most natural way to see behind you while driving.
One suggestion - no matter which backup camera you select, you may want to cover over the multiple infrared transmitters on both sides of the camera so when you're driving at night the headlights on the cars behind you won't wash out the screen. (Backup cameras are made to have 'night vision' , those infrared transmitters are small round white circles, easy to recognize... you don't want them turning on)

Not at all. Best I have is to look at your build sheet and see if you are pre-wired for a camera. Sounds like you may be, if so either haloview or Furrion will work.

Both Furrion and Haloview cameras work on Bluetooth. Both can use a 5"or 7" monitor. The new camera usually won't be able to be connect to whatever you are using now. If you have a camera in the back already, you have power, but I have no idea where it's powered from. If your camera only works in reverse gear, you may have to find a hot wire for the new camera,as in running light circuit etc.

Not sure what radio head unit you have, but in the 2021 Redhawk 31F, we have the Sony with that large screen. It has the option to display the rear camera regardless what gear you're in. If the screen is on the radio, it will automatically switch to the rear camera once you put into reverse.

My rear camera crapped out every time I washed the RV, so I replaced it with a cheap $15 backup camera from Walmart. I noticed that the wires from the old camera do not output 12V so I could not use the existing wiring. I had to run separate (4 wires) from the camera to the fuse panel under the dash. I bought 2 sets of the trailer 4 pin wiring (25 ft long) just to be able to run the wires from the rear to the front dash.

The 4 wires are 12V+, GND, Video+, Video-. The 12V+ is wired to one that is switched with the ignition.

In my truck, I have a 12" screen that works with the TRUCK cameras. The screen isn't compatible with Haloview or Furrion. Hence the separate bluetooth monitor.

It may be something simple as rewiring the reverse trigger wire on your rearview mirror/monitor to a switched 12V+.

When you put it into reverse, the vehicle sends 12V+ to your backup lights. Your reverse trigger wire is most likely tapped into this. Once you put our vehicle out of reverse, it stops the 12V+ to your backup lights AND the reverse trigger wire. You have to "fool" the unit in thinking it's always in reverse by supplying 12V+ to that trigger wire.

Edit: I would test for the 12V+ for the trigger wire when you put it into reverse and out of reverse to make sure that it takes 12V+.

Most camera or radio with camera systems are wired to work with either the vehicle in reverse, using the power lead to the backup lights to turn on the camera, or constant power source to operate the camera via a touch screen button.

Sounds like your camera was wired to the reverse light power lead only. If the camera system/radio has a button as others have mentioned, then you can change the camera power lead from the reverse (backup) power lead to a constant (or ignition hot) lead to allow you to manually operate the camera whenever you want it on.

I'm very happy with the Haloview. Much more cost effective than the Furrion my 24rbs was pre-wired for! Its wired to the parking lights, so it can be on constantly, as long as they are on.
Made a bracket so the receiver can sit in a cup holder on the console, & attached a tpms receiver on top of the Haloview so its a one piece removable unit that plugs into the 12v dash outlet.
