One solution for a smaller doghouse is to get a Melbourne, with the MB V6 diesel, plenty of space upfront with them.

The diesel engines are no longer available in the E-series. I contacted Jayco last week and they told me that the 7.3L gas motor would be released as a 2021 in March or April of 2020. The 2020 models I have seen are on 2019 chassis so far. The 7.3L gas is suppose to be cheaper to produce being a push rod engine than the 6.8L and is also a narrower engine since it doesn't have the overhead cams.

New V8

I will never buy a totally new engine until it’s been out there for at least a year. Old enough to remember so many nightmares with new engines. Some of them incredibly embarrassing to the manufacturer. A few that come to mind, spark plugs popping out of Ford Engines for several years-each spark plug had something like three soft aluminum threads holding them in place. You would never believe how many problems the early GM diesel’s for cars had. GM eventually replaced them with gasoline engines. 20 years ago Johnson and Evinrude produced a new series of engines that you were lucky to get a few hours out of. Bankrupted the company and soon Johnson and Evinrude will be no more.
