Greyhawk tossed an engine rod
Yup, 2011 Jayco cls C Greyhawk V10 eng, 34000 miles engine is history. And no Ford will not warranty. So sitting in Montana waiting on an engine. Kinda disgruntled right now. No reason I am able to figure out the why.

What model is it?
What kind and weight of oil do you use. TIA

Not after 7 yrs, no one would. Dealer always told me low mileage MH's are the ones he was always leary of.

Hopefully the previous owner changed the oil. I’m the second owner of mine and you always wonder. [emoji51]

If 5W20 wasn't used it could be. The V10 has very close tolerances.

Shy of the rod bolts breaking or nuts coming off, throwing a rod is most certainly oil related, could be the oil was never changed and sludged up and plugged the oil pump pickup starving the engine of oil.
The newer V10's recommend 5w30 oil because 5w20 oil is not robust enough. I switched mine after I bought it, first thing I did, Mobil 1 full synthetic with Mobil 1 filter.

It sucks but it is still mechanical stuff it is hard to determine the cause unless the engine after taking apart get examined. A small oil channel can be plugged with debris and the one rod might lack oil on the bearing.

They used 5w20 to try to get better fuel mileage. Didn't help, switched to 5w30.

The rods are fed by a huge oil gallery in the crankshaft, if that was plugged, all the bearings would be toast. Im going with no maintenance or very dirty oil plugging up the oil pump oil pickup.

We have an '08 Ford F-350 with the V-10 at work...230k miles so far and we've tried to kill it with out any luck. With any engine, I think it just comes down to hoping for the best, doing all the maintenance...and hopefully you don't get screwed!

Later builds Ford changed recommendations to 5w30. I believe around 2012-2013. If yours is prior year they probably recommend 5w20.
My oil filler cap distinctly has printed on top 5w30.

X-2 and Greyhawk31 had a 2011, possibly on a 2010 chassis.

I have a 2008 Chassis wonder if should switch to the 5W-30W instead the 5-w 20W ? I know the oil galleys in the cam bearing area are really close little heavier oil especially when cold my cause a problem. Used to run the 50W racing oil in old 350's many moons ago of course clearances were a lot more

I wouldn't if your owner's manual calls for 5w20... I know several people who lost engines because they knew more than the FORD engineers.

It's likely that you are aware that 5W-20 is not the same as 20W and 5W-30 is not the same as 30W. Others may not.

Terrible to have to go through. As others have said it could be low mileage for the years. If the previous owners went by mileage when changing the oil that could be your problem.
Oil should be changed every 6 months regardless of miles driven. This is also why it is so important to exercise the engine and transmission by driving the motor home once a month for long enough to get the motor and oil up to operational temperature for several miles.
Your never going to know for sure what the true cause was but you can make sure your new motor gets properly maintained.
I know it doesn’t help to say this but the V-10 has a very long and good history. It is not known for this or any other mechanical problems. These are historically high mileage engines.
A few years back the aluminum heads had a tendency to spit spark plugs. Ford quickly fixed that.
Hope the new engine gets you fixed up and happy again. Let us know how it goes!
