My question is what is the consensus of driving with the vent flap on the outside of the rv left open and not clipped into place.

I don't think it's a big deal. You'll hear it flapping as you're moving. It can be annoying.

Annoying but we've been doing it for years. The vent is too high up for me to snap it down easily. So it stays open until we store the unit.

Exactly what I do. Open it before we leave and close it when we get back.

I left mine open for the entire camp season on trailers.

Now that I have a class C I notice the flapping noise while driving. So now open it at camp, close when leave camp; because of the flap noise.

I latch ours (unless I forget) for every on-the-road travel. I do it more for reduced wear and tear on the plastic parts, especially the weak pins that it hinges on when it opens and closes. Even though it is high off the ground, I have perfected the knack of using a broom handle to latch it and unlatch it later. On an older TT I did have one fall out because the hinge pin broke. I hope a little preventive action will avoid that happening again.

We have had the rear spare tire cover ripped off of the tire on one trailer and passing semis on two lanes slam the rear view mirror against the window during strong crosswinds on the Greyhawk. I'm thinking that that puny little flap can get ripped off with the right conditions.



It take about 3 minutes to put the ladder up and snap it shut. If it rips the flap off, with some of the vents, you replace the entire vent rather than just the flap.

Mine admits dust into the trailer on the gravel roads at deer camp. The inside of the camper is a low pressure area at speed, vs all of the airflow over, around, and under the trailer.
