Oil filter. Pro tip

1st. Change your own oil if you can. 2nd. Make damn sure you don't accidentally leave the old gasket on the housing when you install the new filter. This was done to our Jayco Melbourne. Merc put the filter housing right over the serpentine belt. The filter leaked...the belt failed...we were stranded on the interstate in 90 degree heat waiting for a tow truck that never came. The oil change had been done before we bought it.

And this is why we do as much as we can on our own. At least if ya screw it up, you have no one to blame but you.

That is basic oil change 101. Was it a shop that did it before your purchase?? I agree and have a full working shop at home. Age is starting to catch up to me but I still push hard to do as much as I can by myself...

Yup. Done before we bought it. We love our home and have heard nothing but good things about this engine. But I gotta say...putting that filter there is a bonehead move. A small oil leak cost me 2 grand. Towing...repairs...hotel. and the beer and shots that followed that fiasco. :-)

I sometimes like to think the engineers go out for a liquid lunch then come back to the drafting table and say WTF this looks like a good place to put this....

I'm trying to wrap my mind around how someone could double gasket a cartridge style filter in an MB application. My guess is that they also left the cap loose to get it to push out like that.

I agree it's best to do the oil changes yourself. Look on YouTube and you'll most likely find the oil change for your exact motor home done in detail. They will even tell you what oil to use and what tools you'll need. And don't forget to change the air filter when needed.
