Plastic swap out?

Has anyone ever tried changing out their plastic toilet for a ceramic one?

Would prefer the easier cleaning, height and even a little oval over what came with our Greyhawk. Thoughts?

Thanks

Easy swap, but remember it's only a ceramic bowl on most. The mounting base is still plastic.

My chair height, elongated bowl, Thetford Aria is all porcelain. They have an electric flush version that I installed (Aria Deluxe II) and a traditional pedal flush model (Aria Classic). It is a terrific upgrade.

I installed the pedal flush Aria in my prior Chateau Class C, loved it too. I am just a "gadget guy", so I went with the electric model in my Seneca within days of getting it new. But if you don't have 12-volts available right there at the toilet I am sure you would find the pedal flush quite adequate. Running a new circuit would up your swap labor costs significantly. I do all my own work so it only cost me the price difference between the two toilet models.

Good luck!

I watched the “flush” video on Thetford’s site. Is that an accurate description of how much water the electric version uses?
It looks like quite a bit. Can it be adjusted?

To directly answer your questions it does flow like what they show in their video when you are hooked up to city/campground water which has good pressure and flow. Poor pressure or flow, not as much. The flush water solenoid on the unit "pulses" for a set amount of open time and pulses, if you have great pressure more water obviously flows. Likewise if you are on your tank/pump, if you have great flow and pressure it will flow like they show. And regarding adjusting it, when in that "automatic" mode you cannot adjust the amount of water flushed. BUT....

The Aria Deluxe II has two flush modes controlled by a switch located in the rear of the toilet. The mode you likely saw online was the "Residential Mode" where you press the button and walk away. The other mode is "User Control/Water Saver Mode" which works more like a pedal or lever-operated flush where it opens the flush valve (to black tank) and then flows water only as long as you hold the flush button down.

The Residential Mode does likely use more water, we use that mode when mainly on a full hookup site where I have campground water and a sewer available for when the tank gets to 75%. I installed a SeeLevel tank monitoring system which is very accurate and even has programmable alarm points so I know when I need to dump. We use the Water Saver mode when not on hookups so we can better conserve water. Then it works like a more conventional RV toilet giving us the ability to minimally flush, useful for when only #1 has taken place!

That switching feature is one of the reasons I really like the unit, it is very handy when the grandsons are with us since we generally are on full hookup sites when they are with us. The ability to push a button and walk away works well for them. Any even when I am on my tank and pump mine flushes like they show in the video. Likely because I installed a 5 GPM pump and have a 2-gallon accumulator in my system. I notice little difference on my pump compared to a decent city water hookup.

I hope that helps, sorry for being long-winded!

Perhaps the manual would be helpful too, meant to attach it to last post!

Is it deeper (into the bowl) than regular RV toilets?

My Aria Deluxe II is certainly deeper than the one that came stock in my Seneca. I believe part of the difference is the fact it is a taller (chair height) unit versus a shorter toilet. Thetford also offers a similar regular height toilet but I don't know if it is shallower as a result.

I changed out the Thetford in ny fifth wheel for a Dometic 300 series. Measure clearances from online specs.
