Roof minor puncture 1/4"

Hello,
our Jayco Redhawk 24B has two 1/4" puncture in the membrane in the middle of the roof - 2 feet from the front cap.
Our Jayco authorized dealer suggested to replace the full membrane of the roof, our insurance mentioned that it could be patched as well.
My concern is to loos the OEM warranty since it is only 5 month old.

Does anyone has experience with a similar case and how did you got it repaired?

I would not suggest removing the entire roof membrane on a brand new unit for something so minor. A couple pieces of EternaBond tape will fix that up good as new and likely outlast the rest of the RV.

Some random thoughts and questions.

Do you think it was that way when you purchased it, or is it possible you may have hit a tree branch somewhere?

To make the roof like brand new would be to have the entire membrane replaced, either under warranty if it was there when you bought it, or by your insurance if you accidentally caused it (minus your deductible).

Yes, it's small, and can be patched with Eternabond tape, which is excellent for that kind of repair, and would be permanent, when applied correctly.

most likely during a wind storm a couple weeks ago a branch hit the roof.
Our dealer told me they would replace the membrane, insurance will cover it. I am still not a fan to replace the complete roof membrane since our dealer told me that this will void the OEM warranty. Not sure if he is right.
Also why would you replace the complete membrane which could potentially increase the risk of seal failure in the long run...
Any suggestions or similar experience?

Personally, no experience with a complete replacement. I'd repair it with the Eternabond tape, and it'll be fine. A lot of members use it for sealing everything on their roofs, that originally had Dicor self leveling compound.

If your insurance will cover replacement I would definitely check out www.rvroof.com. I don't know where you are located, but once the RV Flex Armor roof is sprayed on you have a lifetime guaranteed roof and zero caulking to reapply year after year.

Don't even be concerned about the OEM roof warranty. It isn't worth the cost of the ink it takes to print it.

My RV Flex Armor roof is six years old now and looks as good as it did six years ago and an oak limb bounced off of it during a storm back in October. The only damage was a bit of bark color on the roof which wiped off. Zero damage.

Sounds like the dealer wants to make some big $$$$ by trying to sell you on the roof replacement. Insurance jobs pay out big time.
There is no way in hell I'd have that roof replaced. Slap a piece of Eternabond tape on it and never worry about it again.

I know if I had the dealership do it it would take like 3 months east to get done

So I'd 1st ask that
Also does it keep the warranty in tact if replaced

I'd do the fix myself

This. Then you never have to deal with the resealing work every six months, etc.

If insurance is going to pay, this is THE way to go. Lifetime warranty, as noted.

I put a small tear on my roof, shortly after buying this TT. It was right on the edge where it rolls down the back wall. I installed a piece if eternabond. It worked great.

If I was going a with a new roof, I would seriously consider sprayed on roof. It will eliminate all future maintenance. If you can get your insurance to pay for it, even better.

A former coworker went with www.rvroof.com, he said he would do it immediately on any future rvs.

For something that small, I would seriously consider just using Eternabond tape. I used it for something similar on my previous travel trailer and it held up great. You won’t loose your RV for months while the dealer figures out what to do it with and no risk of unintended damage when they replace the membrane.

I keep a roll of Enternabond on hand while on our trips just in case.

I would also go with the eternabond tape, I have used it for similar repairs and year after year it appears to be holding up very well.

Regarding insurance, I look at insurance as similar to having ~3 silver bullets which are hard to come by, if you use them and especially if you run out you may find it difficult to replace them and even if you can, they will cost a lot more. As another way to say this, I have known more than a few people who have made several insurance claims (within a few years time) only to get cancelled by their insurance carrier and then had to pay a lot more for the same coverage from some lesser known insurance company. ~CA

Nothing is free. What will a claim like this do to your premiums? Even if there is no hit to your cost, there is bound to be inconvenience and maybe weeks of lost use of your camper.
Since you are still under warranty, I assume that your roof is otherwise in very good condition. Eternabond sounds like the best way to go.

Guess what, the dealer told me that the OEM warranty will not cover their work and they only give me three month of warranty of their work.

thanks for all the comments, i will meet with the dealer and insurance on Monday to discuss the net steps.

Will definitely ask then about the patch with eternabond and rvroof maybe the insurance will cover the spray on roof.

Keep you all posted

The dealer only guarantees for 3 months, which I wouldn't accept.
The Flex Armor roof is life time guaranteed, I would fight with that to the insurance company.....period!

I had a tree limb slide down about 2 ft of the edge and a small hole like yours I had the whole roof replaced. $500 dollar deductible

Yes it is a small puncture and a easy repair. But it is also new Motor home and will always be considered a "repair". A repair may void the warranty so why take the chance.

I would let the insurance cover it.

I would go with the FlexArmor if at all possible. Lifetime warranty. I promise you will never regret it.

I have put my money where my mouth is, got it on 5th wheel and motor home.
