RV Insurance

I searched but could not find any posts on RV insurance. Would anyone be willing to share who they insure their RV with ? I've been searching and reading on several RV insurance companies (including Good Sam) and would appreciate anyone's recommendations.

We received the best rate this year by bundling with our home and auto company State Farm, after using Progressive for many years.

The Progressive and Farmers quotes were much higher this year, for us.

We use the Good Sam plan. National General is the insurance company. For us, they had the best rates.

Plus, I like the storage part of the policy.

Was bundled with State Farm, until 2017. Rates for house/car/rv went up from $4,860/yr to $6,810/yr. I'd been with SF since 1969 and no claims since 2002. Got various quotes, Germania wouldn't insure the RV, Geico didn't offer coverage for more than one 'out building' (I have three including a 24x30 garage), Allstate wouldn't carry longevity discount, Nationwide isn't...ended up with AAA Texas. Better coverage than SF on the RV, better coverage on the house, cars same coverage...$4,258/yr.

We had National General or Good Sam for the first 3 years on our old RV until we broke down in Jacksonville FL. Good Sam denied our claim on everything including towing, repair, car rental, vacation interruption ect... Now we bundle and deal directly with Progressive. We are covered for anything including A/C units, fridge, towing, engine, vacation interruption ect.... The best part about my mistake in believing Good Sams adds and not reading the fine print is that Progressive not only covers more, they do it for less money.

Welcome to the forum.

Thanks for the heads-up on Good Sam. We'll check their fine print.

State Farm kept ramping up our premiums and deductibles. Had a hail claim on the house that they fought tooth and nail after being with them over 30 years.

Allstate agent took a lot of time explaining what we could buy and what it would cover, house, car, rv and liability umbrella. For about $200 less a month we got better coverage. Not perfect, but better.

Same here. They were half what everyone else was charging. Even in Michigan where rates are sky high it was only $600 per year for the RV.

I see from your signature that you rent your motorhome out...I wonder if that $600 a year insurance policy would cover if they knew you rented? Just seems like a awfully light policy for all that exposure. Not that it won't but something I would check out. After the accident and someone gets injured is not the time to find out they won't cover you!

Interesting! They just jacked my rates up to $1000 for basically the same rig. No tickets or claims in 12 years of using them. I jumped over to Good Sam for $569. Talked to an agent at Good Sam and he wanted to charge me $876. Got a quote on line by filling out the forms (didn't have to talk to anyone) and got the much lower quote. These places do some crazy stuff.

Good Sam's policy exclusion specifically mentions that it won't be covered if rented out.

Of course they wouldn't cover me for any damage a renter did. The 3'rd party sites now (which is the only thing I use now) provide insurance coverage for the rentals. And they do follow through on their coverage (3'rd party rental coverage) as I have been forced to use it once already.

I would never expect Progressive to cover damage that a renter did.
