X2

I installed a hidden switch in my garage that turns the power off to the two garage door opener outlets, so the breaker stays on but the doors don't work. I also have an antique vehicle but I remove the battery and sit it on my workbench in the basement which stays around 55 degrees. The same for my enclosed car trailer which stays outside. It sits on wood blocks, the tires are covered and the battery is in the basement. I don't use battery tenders when I'm absent for long periods of time. It's a personal thing.

Last year I didn't do anything with the vehicle left behind. But when I put my RV's in storage I take the batteries out and put them on misers. I think I will do as some of the suggestions as others have posted as I think that may be the wise thing to do.

I have very close friend that I ask to drive my 2nd car when I was away. (Gave it to my daughter now), There is nothing worse than having a vehicle sit too long without driving, every aspect of the vehicle is effected.

Always best to leave the keys with a trusted friend or family member. Ask that they come by and drive your vehicles, and when re-parking, move them around so that it looks like someone is coming and going. I'd have someone drive my vehicles every two weeks, at least - once a week would be better.

I have a 70 Blazer that gets stored 6 months per year. I park it with a full tank of NON-ETHANOL fuel and put a battery tender on it. That's it! No need to disconnect the battery. Been doing this for 30 years on various vehicles and never had issues.

Yes, Trusted friend and a trusty camera system! While we were away for 2 months this summer, 4 cars were broken into in our “gated” community, and 2 were stolen! We have 6 cameras and network on a battery backup system, and 3 separate camera systems with alerts! Also multiple solar and hardwired motion lighting around the house. No one came near my house and we were on the dead end!, (we sold the house), and it happens 3 houses away from us!

FYI, this was in the, supposed, 10th safest town in the US!

Make you and your family undesirable for thieves! “Harden the target”

Last tank ethanol free gas or fuel stabilizer. Disconnect negative on battery and u will be good for a year. Also leave the emergency brake off. I had that stick once, parked after driving in the rain and shoes stuck to the drum.

Thanks to everyone for advice. We’ll have to figure some work arounds. We live in a city with no garage and on-street parking.

I wonder if whatever governing body you're dealing with would consider that "abandoned"?

If my only choice was streetside parking, I might put it in storage if I were you. Then you know it's secure and it's not going anywhere.

Problem solved, it may not be there when you get back?

I would not leave it on the street.
