Water pump runs a sec when boondocking

I have a 2019 Redhawk 25R. Anyone ever hear their water pump surge briefly while boondocking? Mine does it every 40-60 min. Can’t find any water leaks anywhere. This is my 3rd RV never had this problem before that I noticed.

Means you have a slow leak.

Thanks Jagiven, I was Afraid of that! When you say there might be a valve not 100 % closed, where would this valve(s) be located? Couldn’t it be a leaky fixture? Sounds like something I may never find until I’m out of warranty and or leaking enough to find!

Start by checking under the coach. See if you can find anything dripping. If not then check all of the water lines inside. If you find nothing there then it is going to be tearing into the area with the plumbing lines to check those. It could be something as simple as an outside shower not turned completely off or a pex clamp that is not tightened down.

Yes somewhere you are losing pressure causing the pump to kick on. Mine has done this at times for.just a second it will run. Might be twice a day. I have no clue where it's leaking but it never gets worse.

Check your 2 low point drains, like CAG suggested. Also check your pressure relief on the water heater. I have also had an issue with the outside shower valves turning as I close up the cover.

I haven’t noticed any water dripping at all. It is only on for a second. It’s been pretty cold where I’ve been camping the last week and tonight it’s going down to 25!, so I just went outside and took In my hose and water filter for the night and switched over to the pump.
I don’t mind the short ride from my house going to the dealer for warranty work but I don’t trust anyone anymore to do the right thing! It’s pathetic!

I’ve had leaks happen on another RV when winter camping, everything contracts in this cold weather! I’ll keep an ear and eye out and keep heading south!.

Thanks y’all

There is a possibility that some of the pressure is leaking back through the pump, if you can find no leakage it is backflow through the pump and not a huge deal, there is a check valve in the pump.

Thanks Jagiven and everyone else. My Pump just kicked on again! I’ll check what everyone suggest tomorrow.

I’ve had that same issue with the outside shower turning on, I couldn’t stand that darn hose falling out every time I open the compartment then try to stuff it all back in!, so I cut the shower hose, left 8”, clamped on a male hose fitting and now use my expanding garden hose. I love it! It’s great having hot water to clean grill etc..

Ours does that from time to time, and I attribute it to the water heater temperature fluctuating, so the water pump just blurps for a second to bring the pressure up. It's done this since it was new in 2012, and there's no leaks visible. If it's something in the pump, it hasn't worsened since it was new.

Mine does the same thing. I do know that mine is a little slow leak on the cold water side of the kitchen faucet when running off of the pump. It is a slow drip and I'll only get a couple of drops in a pan over the course of a day. What's funny though, when I am on campground water through my pressure regulator, it doesn't leak at all.

Mine does not do it on campground hook ups either but my pump is off and valves turned to city water connection.

Mines been doing that for 3 years now. Kicks on for one second randomly every hour or so, or sometimes not. Never have found a leak so I’ve chalked it up to a leaky pump valve or such a slow leak in the enclosed belly or wall that the first drop has evaporated before the next drop falls lol. I’m sure as heck not tearing out the belly or ripping into walls looking when it’s so infrequent and random.

My Northpoint occasionally does the same thing. At first I thought I had a leak in the plumbing somewhere. One way to tell is connect the trailer to a city water connection. Turn the water on to pressurize the trailer water system, then turn the water off at the connection. Let it sit overnite or even for a few days then turn on a faucet and see if you still have pressure or not. If it bled off then you have a leak somewhere. If not then it's the one way valve in the pump itself that's going bad. I know mine is the valve in the pump. Mine kicks on like once or twice throughout the nite. I've never caught it during the day but I'm not in it during the day either.

Everytime mine does this, I have found a leak. Low point valve seal was bad (twice), pressure relief was not seated, exterior shower valve slightly open (multiple times), steel pipe nipple on the water heater (twice), both sinks, a pipe fitting was loose.

If my pump cycles, for no reason, I start looking for water. Sometimes it has taken me a month to find the leak.

Water = rot = mold

Mine was doing the same thing. The hand tightened fittings on my hot water heater were hardly tightened at all from the factory. The water running out from under the cabinets made it easy to find.

Maybe a leaking check valve in the pump allowing pressure to bleed back into the tank

I was going to add that it could just be the hot water cooling off, then the pump kicking in to bring pressure back up. Do you leave the water heater on constantly? Try turning that off, at least over night, and see if it still happens more than once.

My guess is water temp fluctuation as well. As it gets cold, the water will condense slightly. That "slight" contraction when spread over the entire plumbing system can cause an ever so slight loss in pressure in the lines, which will cause the pump to try to bring up pressure; just a "blip" though. My TT did this a couple times. No leaks, and it only happened when the mercury dropped quickly. It would happen maybe once or twice in the night as it got colder. Never happened any other time in that rig.

So far I have not experienced this in the MH, but it's a much "smaller" plumbing system in this rig. And I haven't been out when I've had a rapid and significant ambient temperature delta.

When on the pump I play the top off game. I start from the farthest away valve and quickly open and then closed. Still not sure which one causes it. I run a good odds it will stop the cycle. If it doesn't stop I'll turn it off and then turn it on when we need it. After day or two it sometimes stops the cycle. Good Luck.
