Adding Glass Cooktop Cover
Though this was done to my 2018 Starcraft Satellite 17RB, it could benefit any camper needing more counter space, which the Satellite sorely needed. With the 17RB having the Suburban 2-burner cooktop and sink side-by-side, the only counter space is behind them and only large enough for a small coffeemaker and, even though I had already purchased a cutting board to fit over the cooktop for more usable space, I decided to install a “Suburban 2983A Glass Cooktop Cover” made specifically for this cooktop that I found available on Amazon for less than $80, after carefully measuring the space above AND BELOW the counter. I’ll warn you though, the packaging of the cover for shipping is very poor and it may take ordering 2-3 times to get one usable! My 1st order was severely bent all the way around the glass, so it was returned and the 2nd one came bent on a back corner, but I was able to straighten it well enough to use. I cut this one in close to the side wall on the right, so that when the cooktop is being used, the glass also keeps heat & splatters off the wall. Having seen these recessed burners on larger TT’s, I’m pleased to say the process went perfectly and the result is a game changer, as they say!
Granted, with the spacing instructions included with the cover for cutting out the countertop, I’m pretty handy doing my own work and had all the necessary tools, but I’m happy to share some pix during the process from start to finish.

Impressive work.
Our new to us motorhome has a similar setup with the recessed cooktop and glass cover from the factory. A nice touch given the limited counter space as you mention.
Just last weekend we upgraded the igniter circuit to piezoelectric which makes it even better.

Do you know if they make one for a 3 burner top that also has an oven? My burner range has 5 knobs... 1 sparker, 3 burner top, 1 oven.
Thanks!

To my knowledge, this would only apply to Suburban “cooktops”, not to a stove/oven combo. If it was a separate cooktop, they do come in 3-burner, but again only the Suburban brand cooktop appears to fit.
If you haven’t already, there are a lot of options for metal or wood stove covers to add counter space.

I'd add that there are plastic alternatives, too.
My DIY stove cover was made from a translucent cutting board found at a Good Will store for a dollar or two. I epoxied 3, shortened, wine bottle corks in a pattern that secures it on the stove when traveling. We lean it up when cooking to serve as a splatter guard and the 3 corks are legs for use as a hot pad or cutting board.

WinnieView, I’d be interested in a close-up of where your piezo igniter was placed at the burner. When I did this install, I added the piezo at the same time, but they do not fire up the gas when used, so I’m still using a lighter to fire up the burners.

Thanks much, knowing there are different “lighter” styles for these, am I to understand your lighter is the ceramic piece showing here in close-up? Mine is shown in the 2nd attachment and, although it fires to the burner, it doesn’t lite the gas, so I still have to use a lighter.

The kit we purchased included the piece(s) as shown in your picture and ours did not work as configured either so we spliced into the originally cooktop-equipped wiring so we could use the new battery-operated push button.
The ceramic is an insulator.
The DW accepts it but still doesn't like the fact that her hand is "near the flame" when igniting.

I appreciate the quick reply and will keep experimenting with different locations, if these will work at all. Mine are the crystal strikes, so they’re quite loud when pressed, so I may also try the battery type to keep from waking the dead!
