Predator Generators

Hi All,

I am looking for a good portable generator and am thinking about the Predator brand vs Honda. Does anyone have any good or bad experiences with Predator? Was looking at Honda but it is out of our price range at this particular time as we are still economically recovering from the Covid crisis.

All/any input is welcomed.

Cheers, Michael

I have the Predator 3500 and have had zero issues. It is quiet and starts every time. A friend has the 2000 and has the same experience.

I’ve had a 3500 Predator for 2 years, have about 40 hours on it with zero issues. My only complaint is it weighs 95 pounds without gas. Too heavy to lift by myself and my wife has a bad shoulder, so I bought a HF Hoist that I put in my garage to lift it into the back of my truck. I did have to replace the battery (Amazon) because I failed to keep it charged and it went dead. I now have a trickle charger to keep it topped off and ready to use.

I have a Predator going on 4 years now also with zero issues. I did do some mods to improve it. Converted it to dual fuel - propane or gasoline, added remote start and modified the air filter box to keep it running smoother. I highly recommend it. It does a great job of running my entire camper.

I just sold my Predator (4750?) that had 200 hours on it in dusty hot wide open sun conditions. I kept it covered when not in use, but it stayed outside.

Flawless.

The owners manual said to change the oil every 20 hours. I started out doing that, using an oil extractor. After much research, I figured it was worth the chance to just go 100 hours like every other generator out there. But that only meant one more oil change under my ownership.

If I get another generator, it will be a Predator or Champion. I want an inverter generator.

Predators are great. Also if you buy the warranty they replace no questions asked.

Predator is a clone of Honda. Honda did sue them which caused the to make some minor changes to their design to get around the lawsuit. Their engines have a good reputation and are about half the cost of brand name engines. In general the quality of many of the HFT tools are improving. I have a predator engine on my leaf vac for 3 seasons now with no issues and just put one on my brush mower this fall. I also have the HFT 4 ton floor jack for several years and have been happy along with a couple of their battery maintainers.

Can you share the info on the conversion you did for dual fuel and remote start?

I also have the Predator 3500 Inverter and it rocks! And super quiet...
