Brake issues

I am new to the forum, so here goes: I have a 2017 Pinnacle KPTS with 9500 miles on it. I just had to replace the brakes on all 4 wheels, rt side was metal to metal and left side was grease saturated. My question is, there was a broken wire from the emergency release switch in the harness, would this have set the brakes by default ? I was also informed the brake magnet wire was also broken on the rt side. Anybody else have this happen ?

The emergency brake switch works when the pin is pulled, the switch closes and power is applied to the brakes. If either wire going to that switch was broken, it could not apply any power even if the pin had been pulled.

Grease in the brake drums was likely caused by someone improperly greasing the wheel bearings.

It looks like you will need new brakes on all four wheels. You can test the brakes at any time by pulling the pin on the emergency switch. The wheels should pretty much lock up and slide on a gravel roadway (maybe even on pavement). You can also check for brake drag by raising a wheel off the ground with the brakes off and see if the wheel spins freely by hand.

If you had grease on the brakes shoes, whether it was from a bad seal or over-greasing, and you ran it for any length of time, your other brakes would be doing all the work. You may have had grease for some time and may have increased the gain on your brake controller to get what felt like normal braking, thus putting all the work on just the good wheels. That would explain the wear on the those wheels. Magnet wires can often be damaged when brakes are worn or out of adjustment because of excess slack.
I would recommend you do a thorough check of brake system every 2500 miles or less. Even though they are "self adjusting" it doesn't mean they don't need to be closely monitored.
To go a step further than US71na pointed out, it's not a bad idea to check each wheel off the ground for brake engagement as well as free wheeling with brakes released.

I would hope that they replaced the hub seals while doing a brake job.
