Eagle cold weather operation.

Help!
New owner 2018 Eagle 336 FBOK. I am camping it is 26 degrees. In preparation for the cold i filled the fresh water tank and made the proper valve selection at the command center. Experience told me hose from city connection would freeze and it did. However i turned the pump on,it is working, but no water. I am running the furnace on occasion. Ugh.
Do these trailers have a tank heater? I have a spot on the electric panel but no rocker switch.
Thanks.

No tank heaters. The belly is heated by the furnace. So when you say you're running the furnace on occasion, that's not good. You should be running the furnace only with no other heat sources to ensure the belly and the basement/docking station are kept warm.

You said you filled the fresh water tank and made the proper valve selection at the command center. Does that mean you set the valves to the dry camping selection so that the pump would get water?? If not you will hear the pump running but it can not get water.

My 381 NP has the same configuration at the panel. Yes we run our furnace only (heated throw blankets). I have made the mistake of not aligning the valves correctly at the station and not pumping water even though the pump can be heard running, re-checking your valve alignment it is always a good thing.

My experience with our 2017 Eagle 327 CKTS, on our first outing last winter was that the outlet from the fresh water tank froze. It was clear at the back of the tank area where it would be hard for furnace heat to get to and there was no insulation in that area. I reinsulated the tank area and added a heat tape to the oulet plumbing which I can plug in to an extension cord
No problems since, but poor design by Jayco

I wouldn’t say it’s a poor design... that’s not being entirely fair to Jayco. Did the company ever profess this unit is a “four season” camper?

If we, the camping public wish to push the envelope, then we need to prepare for the worst. And don’t forget: you gotta pay to play!

Meaning: even the mightiest trailers need to be skirted, have auxiliary heat applied to valves, pumps, dump valves, and heated tanks. even with all those precautions, the water PEX lines are usually run along the outside perimeter of the trailer on an external wall. It doesn’t take much for a cabinet to hit 31 degrees if you don’t open the door... meaning any water lines run through the cabinet are suspect.

Are you saying that Jayco’s Climate Shield is false advertising? They don’t say they are “four season” rv’s but they do say units have been tested down to 0* without issue. To me that’s pretty close to “four season” level.

Depends on where you are. Our northern friends in Canada might feel a 0* day is the start of spring.

Ok, so a pamphlet said “down to 0 without issue.”

Was that unit winterized when they did their test?

For how long did they hold it at 0?

What does “without issue” really mean?

I set my TT up as a WINTER seasonal, along with another 20 or so campers. The sites all have frost free hydrants... yet not a single one of us run the trailers’ wet during the winter season. Plenty even skirt the units. But no matter what some marketing jargon says about a manufacturer installed “upgrade,” it is expensive to “winterize” any camping unit for wet running through a northern winter.

I’m not picking a fight, im just a northerner with actual winter camping experience trying to share my experiences.

I agree with your assessment after talking to the service department. They reccomend heating the tanks 12v/120 and putting heated tape in that problem area. About $1500. Ugh.

Yes, misleading. At 20 degrees the inside is easily heated and the plumbing works once you get water introduced. It,s the getting it from the source to the system that is the issue. Previous trailer was Forest River, had a heated tank option and no issues.

That looks like the best choice.
