HAVE YOU TOWED MORE THAN 20k MILES? No.2

If you have, have you had your bearing inspected and repacked. We have towed over 25K miles and have had them inspected and repacked at about 12K. We then spend over 4 months on the road traveling over 13K miles. Wanting to take a short trip we prepared and left, about 3 miles from home the inside rear wheel left for the woods and have never been seen or heard from since. Bottom line have the bearing cleaned, inspected and repacked every year or so. See picture of all that was hanging on to the brake back plate.

To answer your (rhetorical?) question, yes, I have. After an Alaska excursion I did have my bearings checked / serviced. Although I have not had bearing or shackle problems to date on the road, these are good tips. Thank you.

Cotton trailers.
Cattle trailers.
Drilling rig components.
Powerline poles.
Boats.
Various equipment or scrap iron.
Travel trailers.

Yeah.
I probably passed 20k towing before I passed high school.
Wheel bearings are finicky.

7,870 miles on my 2012 KZ Spree E204S before we traded it in. The recommendation for repacking the bearings was 12,000 miles or 12 months. I could not understand why the 12 months was referenced. Bearing grease is not going to break down after 12 months absent use.

Might recommend having them checked when brand new also. My 2018 5th wheel was at the dealer for warrenty work when they happened to check the bearings. They were completely dry and according to the tech had never been greased. Less than 500 miles on the rig.
