MCD Roll Up Shades

I hope this doesn't come across as a stupid question because to me it has an obvious answer. However, the wife has different thoughts so I thought the best thing to do is ask those with experience as we have none with the MCD shades.

To me it is common sense to travel with the shades rolled up to keep them from moving around while in motion. The wife says we always kept our previous fifth wheel shades down when traveling to help with heat gain thru the windows. I didn't think it made a bit of difference but it really didn't matter since they had the string guides so movement was not an issue.

I did look in the owner's manual and the MCD website but found no comments on the subject. So, up, down or who cares?

We always travel with ours up. Just another thing to be banging against the window and the wood trim. Just don't like the idea of them flapping around.

We travel with them down to help slow down heat build up. 4,500 miles with no ill effects. We no practice crash cooling the rig to 60 F on the morning of travel day. Today we went from 102 F to 98 F in 2 1/2 hours and the temps rose only to 82F. On other trips without such measures, the rig can arrive in the 90's and it takes until evening for the A/C's to catch up.

Angus, do you have dual pane windows?

'Fraid not. I'd like to see what the dual panes look like next time I see a dealer.

Angus, that could be why you heat up on the inside while traveling. We have the dual pane windows but in really hot weather we find that opening one of the roof vents really helps keep the temp down inside. If you haven't done so give that a try.

Right. We keep the bath fan cover cracked to suck the hot air off the top of the rig in transit and use the fan judiciously in residence for the same. We are keeping a list of things we would ask for if building a new rig from the factory. Starting with banning Furrion, but now I digress...

Doesn’t matter what you think. Wife is always right. Even when she’s wrong, she’s right. Trust me.

We had dual pane windows on our last 5th wheel. Great for about the first 5 years then they all started to fog. A common problem with them according to what I've read. Replacing or fixing them is not a cheap option. I was not disappointed when I found out our Pinnacle didn't have them.
