New tires

I have to replace the tires on my Silverado before we head out for the winter. What brands do others like or dislike? And why?

Continental ContiTrac TR All-Season
It's a load range E tire that has been the best brand (tire wear and tire mileage) for me over the years. I've tried others, but always came back to these. IMO, they are a highway tire so for snow or off paved roads you may want a more aggressive tread.

Used to be a tire guy many years ago (for Discount/Americas Tire Co), and while I'm sure some things have changed, the basics likely have not. Buy the best tire you can afford, don't cheap out, whatever you go with.

Can't got wrong with the Michelin LTX series. Pricey, but darn good tires. I'm a Cooper fan myself, ran their M/Ts and versions of various A/Ts over the years. Good product at a great price. Yokohama has a reputation for a good product at a very reasonable price, though maybe not as good in the ride quality/noise department as a tire that costs a little more.

If you have a good shop near you, with customer service to match.... ask them. Walk in, tell them you're not buying today, but want some input. Let them show you what they can offer. Most chains have some decent private label stuff, as well as the national brands.

There really is no one answer. Depends on the rig, the region, how you're gonna use the tire, etc.

Tx. I've always bought from a regional dealer. But since we're traveling to Arizona for the winter I'm thinking it's better to get a national brand.

Go with Michelin, pricey but still the best

Worked for one co. for 28 years. Service manager for 21 years. One of my jobs were purchasing and overseeing repairs for 45 vehicles. I only ran Michelin or Bridgestone depending on which one my dealer could get the best deal on at the time. Both are good tires but I found the Bridgestone to be better ride, better wear and a little cheaper most of the time.

I've used Mastercraft Coursers on quite a few of my trucks. Cheaper in price then Bridgestone/Firestone but just as good in quality if not better. I always got them through the BestOne Tire dealers. They are the house brand of Cooper Tires.

MS2’s are the BEST!
I got just over 63,000 miles from my last set.

I had Duratrac's on my dually and they were awesome in the snow but noisy on dry roads.

I thought the Defender would be quieter based on the tighter tread pattern but just as bad as the Duratracs.

My Chev has LTX A/T2's. Quieter but not so good in the snow or offroad. I skip 90% of the winter up here so that's not much of an issue.

depends on the size... too

I run both Michelin and Cooper... the Coopers have been a better value both in price and longevity.. the Coopers were all well balanced for the 20" tires they are.. even discount tire remarked how little weight they needed...

Michelin MS2 and Discount Tire - almost nationwide service and good customer service - with the tire warranty I haven’t paid more than $60 for a tire in about 8 years and free balance and rotation for the life of the tire and free flat repairs Les

This is not correct they sell both models. If you want raised white letters then you have to purchase the MS2. I just purchased a set last month. Very nice riding tire and no noise. [emoji106]

Michelin MS2 all the way. I took a set off my Ford Explorer that had 118,000 miles on them. Have a set on my Ford Expedition with about 50,000 on them and more than half the tread is still there. Have a set on my F350 dually right now that has about 35,000 and still lots of life left on them. Probably 20,000 of those miles on the F350 were towing my camper. There are Michelin dealers everywhere you go. Good luck.

Michelins on the car Camry, the truck F250, and the trailer eagle 325rlts. Been doing michelins for years. Never an issue! I've had Goodyears, Bridgestones, bfgoodrich, uniroyals always the best mileage on Michelins. Usually the quietest tread.
