Ours is a 2019, and it's 300 on the hitch, and 3000 total weight.

some models are not designed to tow but still have a factory reciever. I have a 321 RSTS, it comes stock with the receiver welded to the frame and has a tongue capacity of 300 lbs. and not intended to tow. I think the tell-tell is; if you have a factory electrical harness for the towed vehicle then it was intended to tow, but i defiantly would check owner manual for your model to determine the tow limits.

That's considered triple-towing, and is not legal in Alabama, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kansas, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Mississippi, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Oklahoma, Oregon, Rhode Island, Texas, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, and Wisconsin (with a length restriction). I'd hate to see you get a ticket for that.

Thank you. I do see that, but with a length restriction. I'm not sure if that length is all three, or just the fifth wheel and what's behind it. I'm curious about that. There are a lot of states he needs to get through to get to Wisconsin.

What are you looking to tow behind you? I had a hitch welded up on mine for around $400, just make sure your legal in your state and where ever you might be traveling and pulling doubles. I’ve been doing it for years.

I see why now. Your signature still says NYC. I went with that.

Just curious where you got this list of no-triple states.

We live in Kansas, and the last that I knew, it was legal here, but there is a length and brake requirement. If it's not legal here, there are a LOT of people that do intrastate, and law enforcement is not actively pulling people over.

That could have changed in 2022, and I'm not aware of the change...

recreational double towing

In Michigan it's called Recreational Double, and it's legal, I have the endorsement on my DL. Not legal in all states tho.
Side note- Backng up a Recreational Double is not easy, plan accordingly!

"The total length of all three vehicles cannot exceed 75 feet. The gross weight of the additional trailer cannot exceed the empty weight of the pickup or the semi trailer. The minimum age to get a recreational doubles endorsement is 18. The cost of the endorsement is $10. You must pass a 15-question Recreational Doubles written test. No road test is required."

In Fl, I have heard of one getting stopped, told to disconnect tandem, and return to get it. With my luck, I'd probably get a ticket also!

With a commercial license you can tow several states: Nevada, California. Check your state for commercial laws.

There is a lot of conflicting information out there on this. I would suggest looking at the states that you are going to and see what the regs are.

The post above indicated that it was illegal to triple tow in Kansas, and I just pulled this statement from the KS Highway Patrol:

Towing Combinations
Vehicles are allowed to tow 2 trailers in tandem if there is an anti-sway device on the 1st trailer and an active braking system on the 2nd trailer. The overall length of this combination cannot exceed 65 feet from the front bumper of the towing vehicle to the rear bumper of the last trailer.

How are you guys controlling the brakes on the second trailer? Seems like the lighter trailer would lock up the brakes if controlled off the same brake controller as the heavier trailer.

I copied the list from RVTravel.com. It was in an article written in March 2021, so seemed to be up to date. I probably made two errors, one that everything on the internet is right, and two, that there are many variable stipulations in state law that are tough to generalize into a simple list. And we know laws can change at any time. I do apologize for any confusion.

Here in NY we only see "double-bottom" tractor trailers. Full length on the NYS Thruway, and occasionally with a pair of shorter trailers on some other interstates.
