Traveling With Tanks 3/4-Full

Is it ok to travel approximately 30 miles with your black and grey tanks 3/4 to full? Any chance of a tank rupturing while traveling? Thanks.

I have done it a number of times and have not had a problem but have heard a few stories of problems. It should be something that logically should be an option.

How else would I get from a boondocking location to a dump station? I've hauled from Quartzsite to Palm Springs with full blk/gry in the past with no issues. That was when I had a dually though, the tank load adds to the pin. Smooth roads are fine, real rough ones maybe not.

I regularly travel from our boondocking spot to home or the dump station with the tanks full or near full (25 miles to the dump station) over some not so nice roads. Absolutely no issues.

As long as there are no manufacturing defects with your tanks and the way that they are mounted in your rv, you should be just fine.

As mentioned above, you do hear of tanks falling out, etc. But, I'd venture to say that those issues are not the norm.

I do it all the time. Always have my water tank full too. What's the point in a self contained RV if you couldn't use it self contained? I travel hundreds of miles with the tanks at various levels. I mostly dry camp. Done this with 3 different 5th wheels and a travel trailer.

Remember bad things can happen.. Ruptured tanks no.. You might slosh gray water into the tub..
Or run over a projectile that launches and shoots into the tank...

but hey life is a gamble anyway.

We are filling up with fresh water now and travelling about 90 miles to a farmers field for a fair.. No facilities.. We have to drive the first few miles over rutted dirt road.. no worries.

We will have to empty our black tank at our RV dealer when we get home.. Dont think I want to spread manure in our woods.

If you are a little worried and/or have the time, do a crawl under and check your tank support straps. Several posts I have read indicate that Jayco has not reached perfection in completing everything.

Mine look fine, but you could be missing a bolt or two. Some are held by screws and I have read of people adding more support.

We camped at the Black Canyon of the Gunnison for several days and then drove over 50 miles to find somewhere to dump. No choice there or a couple of other times. Your tanks should be designed for exactly that.
