Does anyone use the Winegard router and you have to buy a Sim card to install in it

We use it and you do not need a Sim card to use it, as long as you are using the local Wi-Fi. If you choose to use Verizon or AT&T as your Wi-Fi source, then you will need a Sim card

Our Greyhawk (recently sold) was equipped with Winegard's ConnecT 2.0. It would accept SIM cards from most major providers. We used Verizon, and were very satisfied with the service. We had an excellent signal stopped or moving. We are is SWFL and Verizon works well there.

The SIM card is free; but to use it requires a separate line and its associated fees.

Edit: I still have the SIM card and haven't cancelled the service. I'd like to use it again in a less expensive device. So far I haven't been able to find one.

Not the Winegard, TP-Link AC750 Wireless Portable Nano Travel Router - WiFi Bridge/Range Extender/Access Point/Client Modes, Mobile in Pocket(TL-WR902AC)

I can connect to the parks WiFi or use our cell phones hot spot to share. Its not going to change access speeds.

I use this one with service from red pocket mobile. I used the $40 unlimited call/text with 25gb plan. I used the imei number from the router on set up with the service plan. I also bought adapter cables to connect to the air 360+ antennas. Red pocket allows you to choose what major carrier network you want to use.

The only reason you might want a SIM card is if that's how you get your internet. I have the the Winegard GW-1000 Gateway 4G LTE WiFi Router for AIR 360+ Antenna. It can pickup nearby wifi and route it to all the devices in the camper. If I don't use a SIM card, the router can connect to the campsite's WIFI (2.4) or if I use a hotspot, it can route everything from that. Your phone can likely be your hotspot. I shelled out some cash for a Netgear M6 5G hotspot and get excellent reception from it.
Winegard makes a better device now..Model: GW-5G01 which has a couple advantages: it's a 5G cellular router PLUS a 5G wifi router and it's backward compatible with 4G and 2.4 wifi.
I wish I had that one... but we do fine with what we have to stream movies and browse the web.
