2019 Seneca 37fs - Main motor home door not closing/ latching

The main cabin door sometimes will not close because the levelers have tried to level the coach, sometimes even when the levers have not been used the door will not close. The door I am assuming becomes askew when not parked on a level surface. The door latch posts on the door then do not reach out far enough to go into place on the striker plate when the door closes. I have messed with the striker plate to get it to latch sometimes and am considering adding a plate under it to bring out by 1/16” or 1/8” to solve the issue (hopefully).

Anyone else experienced this and what if anything did you do to fix the issue besides changing the level of the unit?

I had to grind down my striker plate after my first trip and during my first trip I just readjusted usually 2 of my 4 jacks.

I have trouble opening and closing my door sometimes after I level. I thought I read earlier that there was some adjustment that moves the striker plate in and out in the frame. I have not tried that yet but you may want to search for that thread. Good luck

My problem was that my door had too big of a gap at the striker/latch assembly side. I could stick a screwdriver in there and unlatch the door! It never was so bad that the pins would not enter the jamb-side striker, but my door would "unlatch" to the first stop just going down the bumpy roads. I believe it was mostly the deadbolt holding it shut.

I had my door completely off the coach to change out the window so I took that opportunity to shim the door hinges to move the door closer on the latch side. Works much better now and the latch is not visible when the door is closed. And it no longer partially unlatches anymore going down the road. It does "stick" a little now if I am parked off-level but a tug will always get it open. When I level the unit it is always fine.

Mine was the same way and I made very small adjustments to the latch unit on the frame as the back side of the pins were rubbing on the inside where they go into the slots on the latch. This advise came from a 30 year RV tech after he looked at it. What I did is I had a prybar with a square shank so I could put a wrench on it. Then I put the tip of the prybar in between the 2 plates of the frame latch and gently twisted the tip of the prybar to bend the plate out toward the door pins...it didnt take much. That adjustment and keeping it lubed works great. Doing it this way does not stress the frame or the frame latch screws as the force is between the inner and outer latch plates.

We have the same issue... One night when it got really cold, the door was really difficult to open in the early morning... Stacy thought I had somehow locked her in the motorhome, but the funny part was I was still in bed in back.

It seems that Cold, Hot, not-level, they all seem to contribute to the latch and strike plate being out of alignment. I just keep a Phillips screwdriver handy and adjust it after leveling at the next spot we stop at. It's part of our setup routine nowadays, after the slides go out.

Finishing this thread out

I finally ended up taking 2 quarters under the striker plate to hold it out far enough for the doors pins to align properly. Poor mans fix for 50 cents. So far so good no issues for a long while now.

May eventually replace with some steel custom cut but I like the quarters…
