Looking for help with outlet problems. When on shore power outlets work batteries alone no power to the outlets everything else works. Just changed the power converter / charger, am able to reset the gfci on shore power but running off just the batteries no power to outlets, any ideas?

Hi, and welcome to JOF!

What you describe is perfectly normal. Your battery does not power the 120V AC outlets, they only work when connected to shore power. Your converter changes 120V AC down to 12VDC to keep your battery charged and work all of the other 12V items in your trailer (most lighting, and as equipped water pump, control for fridge and heater, awning, power jack).

Hmmm, some items might be hard to replace exactly on a 30 year old camper. Best advice on both the heater and the fridge is to measure the existing one and use those dimensions to source a new one. Unless you are comfortable cutting into cabinets, it is probably best to keep to the same size or smaller.

The technology really hasn't changed that much (except for instant water heaters (lots of haters), and residential fridges), so you should be able to find a comparable current model. Biggest brands for RV water heaters are Atwood/Dometic or Suburban and for fridges it's Norcold or Dometic.

When replacing these, I would have your old propane system inspected and pressure (drop) tested as well at the same time if you haven't already had it checked out.
