You can believe what you want. I know what happened. Yes, our grill got blown off the picnic table. Our 12' Porta Bote got flipped over several times. I found it 4 sites down from ours. We had 2 inner tube floats that where under the motorhome. Both got blown out. One we found about 100 yards away in the Apple Orchard. The other was a little further away in the Apple Orchard.

All 6 of the Power Poles that line the campground road across from the farm had damage. Every tree a long the campground road across from the farm had broken branches. About 5 campers sustained damage, 2 were a complete loss. We were without power for 5 days.

Read all about it on weather.gov

The 7" springs on our awning anchors got stretched over 2 feet and were completely useless. Without the springs, the awning would have been toast. No doubt about it. It was the springs that saved the awning.

In any high winds we roll ours up, but, we also have an anchor kit. There are times when we camp when I don't want to have to worry about a wind coming up and will anchor it down if we leave in the early morning. "Wind Reports" are less than accurate. I like this one as the reviews on the forum left me believing that it would survive a quick thunderstorm. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001Y8NF90...6CEO5AEL&psc=0

All of that destroyed and your good ol springs saved the day. Yup, I'll believe what I believe. Pure BS.

Awning/wind

When in doubt, or leaving camp, roll it up. I've seen too many campers with the fabric and hardware up on the roof, twisted and beat to death.

We roll it up. Those kits posted would be a joke in Arizona. The ground is so hard and full of rocks you would never get those started. 🤣

I just got one of these and used it this past week. It worked well and worth the money to me. It did a good job in a moderate wind but probably not in a high wind. Still, it allowed me to leave the awning out when before I would have had to retract it.

I just got that, but haven't gotten a chance to test it yet. Will report back after our next camping trip around Memorial Day. I have high hopes.

I carry four of these 18-inch screw into the ground augers. Then I use four of the 15-foot 1/2-inch ratchet straps to run from my trailer to the ground. Used to use rope but you end up cutting the ropes everytime you tear it all down. The ratchet straps is the way to go... All is stored away when you get get ready to move...

The small ground augers do not leave a mark in the ground when you take them out...

To aide me in this process I added these tie loops in the four corners of my trailer... My big problem with my POPUP was it would sway in the wind pretty easy and I have a good 6-inch movement from side to side and this would knock things off my shelf inside...

Now all is rock steady...

After I setup the awning I can run two additional 1/2-inch ratchet straps from the end of the awning down to the front screwed in ground augers...

Even though all of this stabilizes the trailer and awning we still head for local shelter when the winds get up around the 45-50mph range... Always have a NOAH radio with us to alarm us of approaching storms.. Live 24/7 Radar on the HDTV using the Batwing Antenna keeps us in the know weather wise as well...

I have used this in the past and the springs really help cushion the shock. Unfortunately pain to hook up and when you need to quickly roll up the awning even bigger pain. Found it is just easy to not use an anchor and if need to roll up the awning.

Tks for posting that. I still use them and have piece of mind. If I am around and they are calling for a storm with high winds I will roll up the awning. Have only done that a few times. We r always gone doing something and rolling it in and out numerous times would be insane. Like said the tie downs and heavy springs give just a little bit of give and the poles always have stayed in place. BigJohns for the domestic is a sweet set up.
