Battery Tender While in Storage

Has anyone used a small solar panel that plugs into the trailers prewired solar port on the side to maintain the batteries while your trailer is in storage? While I know you can clip to the batteries, the convenience of using the gopower port seems like a no brained if it would work.

Curious on peoples experience and if so what panel they went with.

Thx!

Battery Tender While in Storage

I have 300 watts on the roof to keep my batteries charged, even a 50 watt would probably do the job if not much is being used.

In storage you could just disconnect your negative cable. The batteries will be fine for months. That’s what I do for most of the winter.

I have a 7.5 watt solar charger connected to my battery while my camper is sitting in the storage facility in the summer. This little thing works great but will not keep up with the parasitic draws of my unit but will keep the battery fully charged with the battery disconnect on.

Make sure that you have a solar panel controller. It takes the power from the panel and adjusts the voltage to charge the battery and then reduces it to just keep the battery topped off. Without a controller even a small panel could boil a battery dry and ruin it. Read up on it and watch some youtubes before buying or installing solar.
Good Luck! and see you down the road.
