Black Tank Flush @ National Parks

Hello All,

I'm new to camping having purchased a 2022 Jayco Jay Flight SLX 8 242BHSW Rocky Mountain Edition camping trailer.

We took it to Teton National Park and encountered a black tank flush out connection that was new to me, but the campground attendants said was extremely common in National Parks.

I've attached pictures of it. I'm wondering if there is a brass adapter I could purchase that would snap connect to the brass fitting at the campground and then thread to my normal black water flush out hose.

I sure would appreciate some input.

Thanks!

Dont know for sure from the pics but to me that looks like the typical sewer dump area water hose.

Its used to spray into your dump hose to clean it out after disconnecting it from the RV (other end still in the sewer dump). Also to spray/route any spilled undesirables on the ground towards the sewer.

Not meant to be connected to anything.

cut the male end off a section of 1/2 or 5/8 hose and carry a thumb hose clamp.

if we are in any campground that has a dump station we put several gallons of water in out fresh waster tank, and turn on the water pump and get out lines primed before leaving the camp site. then go to the dump, release the black. then after it drains i have my wife fill the toilet bowl and let it drop and flush about 3 maybe 4 times if theirs not a line at the dump. then the next time I'm at a Full hookup site i wash it out with the clean out. I also have her fix the tank with happy camper and water just like we where setting up so a few gallons or the happy camper mix is sloshing around in the tank and if you need to use the toilet while traveling its good to go.

you can also use gallon jugs of water if you dont want to use your pump and fresh water tank.

I would dump it normally then pour 4 gallons in the tank and leave.

Do that type cleanout at the next campground.

Google water bandit. Maybe that would solve your problem

Water bandit with a clamp might be the best solution. A problem might arise if the brass fitting has been dented or damaged, so have the clamp if necessary. A water bandit is also a good thing to carry in case you ever get to a spigot where someone has damaged the treads.

I use a water bandit all the time when boondocking. I can tell you if the water pressure is high, it will blow off, even with an added thumb screw.

As for the OP, when I have seen those a with the 90 degree tip at the dump station, it was just for rinsing out your sewer hose. It was setup so you did NOT do a black tank flush. I have seen another version without the 90 degree tip (straight through) and you could push the ball portion up to your sewer connection and force the water up and into your tank. Honestly I have not seen these used in decades, as they were VERY messy, and this was before the dedicated black tank flush systems we have now. In Alaska we saw a lot of old technology everywhere.

Personally, I would dump, add 10% water back into the tank and roll on.

Water bandits are highly overrated!

I have one in my water box for years and every time I needed it, it takes someone holding it in place, even with a clamp to get it to work even a little.

Usually it's the folks supplying the water wanting you to not use too much.

If one does decide to rinse their black tank at the dump station, please be cognizant of those waiting behind you (if any).

We use a water bandit and a turn thumb clamp. Cheaper at oreilly’s auto parts. Great for filling you fresh water too at your campsite, just don’t use the same hose. Hehehe.

Carry a five gallon bucket and fill and dump in to the toilet a few times. That will help flush. Then add back in enough water (at least 10% of tank size) and what ever chem you use and go to next spot and do a full flush after refilling it. The bucket method works pretty good. Your sensors may not work quite right till you do a full flush again but it will be good till you can do the full flush.

Personally my sensors work great (at least on the black tank). I flush while dumping, keep it running and close valve and fill. Then open etc. doing this a few times gets the tank nice and fresh and never have sensor issues.

What I want to know is how to get a good flush in the grey tank? To me they should also add a valve port to do that.
