The person who mentioned the 3-in-1 lock lube was a great help! I actually had a can of it that I needed to use on ALL the keyholes because my RV sat outside in the Camping World lot through the winter. The keyholes were mostly not working well at all! BUt yeah, I sprayed some of that into the lock mechanism and I can actually pull the door shut now without having to hold the latch open first!

As for the door slightly warping when the sun has been on it...that still happens, but now that the latch works better, from inside I can gently "slam" the door and it closes all the way. No more feeling like I am going to pull the whole handle off inside.

Question
Does anyone know if Jayco Engineering or warranty group read or see these threads? With the amount of folks responding to this thread with the same issue, that should be a "RED" flag for them to take some action.

Thanks for posting this as we have the same problem whether closing or opening. We have to push and pull the latch at the same time. Impossible for the kids to open. I thought this was just one of those things. Good to know there is a solution

Is Jayco Engineering an oxymoron? Just sayin’.

I finally had enough this weekend. Lube wasnt enough. I took the lock apart and modified the spring that keeps the latch pushed out to make it have fewer coils but the same length. Cut a few rings and stretched the spring back to original length. After a few cautious snips I found the sweet spot.

Now the kids can open the door and it doesnt feel like the door is going to fall off from being slammed every time.

You can't just push it closed and allow the latch to slide into the handle. You have hold the handle open and close the door and then release the handle which then allows the latch to enter the strike plate

We have Jayco Precept 2016 same issue. We were new to Jayco so this was a big problem for us. Dealer worked on it and improved it but if the sun is shining on it forget a smooth open or shut!

Door lock sticks

We are having the same problem. The lock on our 2016 Jay Flight while under warranty and was replaced by Jayco. Since they no longer used the lock that was originally installed, we received an upgraded lock with a key pad. We now have to lift the latch handle to shut the door properly. We hesitate to grease the electronic lot. Any suggestions?

Wd-40 is a poor lubricant, will dry out quickly. It was invented to displace water. (WD=Water Displacement) the WD-40 brand does however sell Silicone and White Lithium lubricants in the same type spray can.

Having the same issue with my 2018 284BHS. Took the lock apart and hit it with some white lithium. Seems to close much better

I’ve had this issue every since I purchased the trailer. For the people who took the lock apart. Did you just remove the back plate and spray the inside? Or did you completely remove the lock from the door?

Anyone have a guide of some short?

Thanks

I spray the latch without removing any items.

Same here. I use a little CRC PTFE dry lube on the door latches, works wonders. Typically do it in the spring and latches are fine all season.

Al long as the latch itself doesn't have any interference, a little dab of cooking oil coating the latch and sticker is a quick fix.

Fixed at last

Been experiencing the same issue as many others mentioned. Kept telling myself I would fix it someday, read this post and proceeded to the driveway where I had the door latch operating smooth in 5 minutes. I really do enjoy reading this forum.😁👍

Our 2021 latch was pretty stiff. Open the door and apply some graphite powder for keys and locks into the mechanism while opening/closing the handle to move the inner parts. It is a powder and won't attract any dirt. Apply some around strike plate also. Be generous with it as you can't use too much. It works amazingly well. I use graphite powder on any metal to metal friction points that need lubed where I don't want oil or liquids. I even used it on my receiver hitch lock that had become a little tough to lock/unlock.
