Flojet / Macerator waste pump – which hose?

Hi Guys,

Just ordered Flojet / Macerator pump and Barker waste tank to support my dry camping trips.

Which hose you suggest using? I noticed online that there are (expensive) dedicated hoses. Should I just buy 50 ft (or 2x25 ft) ¾ hose? What are advantages of buying hoses like this one?

Just use a rubber hose from sears. They’re cheap too.

Also, how much did all that run you? Looking to do the same but it seems so expensive to dump my poop. Haha

The advantage of buying the clean dump is fattening the pockets at clean dump. Just buy a quality 3/4 hose. I chose black so I wont mix it up with anything else.

Thanks!

Pump $210, tote (42 gallons) $250 plus hose. Expensive, no doubt, but we dry camp 99% of the time and sometimes there is no dump station on the campground.

I use a regular heavy duty black hose from Home Depot. I bought two 25’ hoses so I could use both for a 50’ or one for a shorter run. Don’t buy a super cheap hose, buy a nice flexible one that isn’t going to crack and leak. I bought a brass 90 degree hose fitting to screw onto the plastic threads where the totes level indicator goes (that’s where I screw in dump hose). That way the hose doesn’t wear out those plastic threads over time and time again of using tote and the hose lays flat instead of being bent over. I bought a roll of heavy duty 2wire to extend the short alligator clip power hook up on the macerator so it will reach all the way back to my dump port which is 25’ away from the batteries. Put all that in a nice little “Black Tank” kit bag or tote and your set.

I ordered this one.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I was thinking about the wire extension - I have the batteries in the back of the trailer, so very close to the sewer hook up. However, I have lithium batteries so I am not even sure, how to connect the pump. I would think I need to take the power from the car battery.

Any recommendations for products are appreciated (online transaction would be the best).

I just used mine yesterday so I could dump at home when the dump stations are backed up 15 deep. This way I can take my time and do it home if need be or use it if the parks dumps are sticking out of the ground a foot to eliminate the need to stack a bunch of blocks to get my fall. I may end up wiring permanently but for now I am using some quality 12ga. sj cord and alligator clips to extend the wires that came with it. I got mine from pplmotors. For 188 plus shipping. I am using a 3/4hose. It seemed to work fine. Do yourself a favor and spin motor at the back with screwdriver to be sure pump is freed up. Mine blew the 20amp fuse cause it locked up at first. Once I spun it free it was good.

I bought a 50', 10-gauge lead cord. Cut the male and female plugs off, put a two-prong connection on each end. I jut the alligator clips off the macerator and put a matching two-prong on the macerator. I THEN put another two prong on the alligator clips. Finally, I bought a trailer plug to go into the back of the truck, and wired a two-prong to the always hot 12v and the ground.

Now I have the option of powering the macerater from the battery with the alligator clips,, or just plugging it into the back of the tow vehicle. My new Jayco has the side-connection for the briefcase solar, and that is the exact same two-prong connection. So now I can also power 12v from there.

That all, worked so well, that I also made-up a two-prong to cigarette lighter plug, so that I can plug in my Sirius "boom box" and listen to the radio by the camp fire. I also put the same two-prong plug on the fresh water pump that I use to transfer water from a 40-gallon portable water bladder to my fresh water tank, when boon docking. This give me all the same options for powering the pump, as well.....

Very interesting. When you say "a two-prong connection", are you referring to something like this? You are just connecting the cables and secure with electric tape? Or there is any other magic way to install the connectors?

Yes. Those are the ones that I used. I used solderless crimp connectors, then wrapped well with electrical tape.

I ran 12 gauge red and black wire that is connected to my battery all the way back to the dump valves on the trailer. There I soldered in the 2 prong connector like shown in the link. All I need to do is connect the macerator to the dump port and plug it in and run the hose.
Fairly simple.

I want to use a 1” backwash hose in my Macerator. Anyone use one of these before? If so how do it workout?
Thanks
